Nothing found

Jane stepped out of the shower, naked with a towel draped over her shoulder as she walked into Liara's mini office, her bondmate sitting at a desk and looking at several monitors.

"Something wrong?" Jane asked as the asari still kept her eyes on the screen, removing her towel and wrapping it around her waist. "You look lost in thought."

"You know how I have had those cameras installed in the homes of all our friends?" Liara asked.

"You have cameras all over the universe for your job, Ms. Shadowbroker."

"Yes, but..." Liara said, pulling up a a screen that was pitch black. "When I tried to check in on Jack and Miranda at the latter's apartment, just to see if they haven't killed each other yet..."

Liara pressed a button, and a flashing sign reading "Signal Lost" flashed on the screen.

"What about your sensors?" Jane asked in confusion, "Did they pick up anyone tampering with them?"

"That's the thing." Liara replied, "That was the first thing I checked. However, when I ran the diagnostic, the sensors were down, too. Whatever took down the cameras took down everything else."

"'Whatever'?"

"It's virtually impossible for anyone to interfere with the surveillance of The Shadow Broker. To be blunt, I've no idea what we're dealing with here. It's almost like they up and plucked the bug from where I hid it!"

"Worth every penny." Kasumi commented as she held the deactivated device in one hand and pocketing it, turning her head to look a strange handheld device in her other hand. "And they say The Black Market sells shoddy goods."

"Terrorist attack in order to get to me?"

"Doubtful." Liara replied as she shook her head, "I ran through the rest of my surveillance, and nothing came up. And if it was, they're clearly suicidal. It would make sense for them to go after me, Ashley, Tali and Garrus, or Joker and EDI. But those two? The only way they could get more suicidal is if they targeted Grunt or Wrex first."

"Hmmm..." Jane hummed, not liking this. "Miranda lives about twenty or so miles -"

"Twenty-six and a half." Liara corrected.

"Twenty or so miles away from here." Jane continued, "I'll get dressed and then we'll go check on them."

"Well," Miranda said after the two women had searched the entire place, "we turned my apartment completely upsidedown, and it is going to take me forever to put have this stuff back. And in the end, we haven't found one bloody bug. This leads me to two possible scenarios. One, Liara never bugged my apartment in the first place..."

"Bull!" Jack scoffed, "She's probably got cameras all over the universe!"

"Or two, Kasumi must have found a way to steal that, too."

"I swear, they'll never identify her body after I'm done with her." Jack growled. Taking a deep breath, she asked, "We're really gonna have to streak the fucking city, aren't we?"

"Unfortunately." Miranda said, "Fortunately, if we stick to the back roads and wooded areas, we shouldn't be seen by a lot of people."

"Ugh!" Jack groaned, "Let's just get this over with..."

The door to Miranda's apartment creaked open as the dark haired woman poked her head out, looking down the halls.

"The coast is clear..." She said as she quickly stepped out with Jack close behind, cupping her crotch. Looking over her shoulder, she gasped as she saw Jack closing the door. "Wait! First grab the -"

*Click*

*Beep!*

"... Key." Miranda sighed. "Great. Now we're locked out."

"What the fuck?!" Jack asked as she tugged on the handle, letting out a growl as she turned to Miranda. "What kinda place is this?!"

"The doors lock automatically for safety reasons." Miranda explained, "This place spent a pretty penny in that regard. And before you even get the idea of blasting my door down, Honey, according to the superintendent, it would take an army of Krogan on steroids to even leave a dent!"

"Well, your superintendent never met me!"

"Don't you dare even try it, Missy!"

"I'm sorry. Last I checked, you ended up being my 'wife'. Not my freaking mom!"

"Jack! If you so much as try to break my door down -"

"You'll what?!" Jack challenged as her hands began glowing blue. Just as she was about to deliver a blow to the door, however, Miranda scraped her fingertips repeatedly along Jack's sides, causing the tattooed woman to howl in laughter as she powered down her biotics.

"What the hell is going on out there?!"

"Crap! One of my neighbors!" Miranda whispered harshly as she pulled away, Jack's laughter slowly dying down.
