Chapter 4 by D!$N3Y D!$N3Y

What will Quasimodo do with them?

Nothing. At least not yet.

Quasimodo had climbed the stairs up the bell tower, feeling humiliated, ashamed, and melancholy before picking up the white box. He curiously picked it up, removing the green bow, and saw 6 Gems he never saw before. He took the blue one in his fingers, watching it glow and feeling something strange come over him. He dropped it in surprise and then put it back from the step into the box, carrying it under his brawny arms. As he walked along the roof, he was greeted by his only friends, the gargoyles: Hugo, Victor, and Laverne.

"Oh, Quasi..." she comforted. "What happened was just... Just horrible!"

"Yes," Victor agreed. "Throwing a tomato, of all things, is unseemly. Not to mention ruining your overdue time in the sun."

Quasi just sighed. "For a minute, at least..." He walked to his 'work' desk, laying his head on his arms upon it. "Frollo warned me that people would only see me as a monster."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Hugo said, joining him. "You can't ring that bell, Quasi. Think about it: you got to get out of bein' cooped up, You got girls to kiss you..." He bumped his stony elbow into him, smirking. "And you had a good time, didn't ya?"

"Yeah..." Quasi replied dismissively. "I suppose."

"Indeed, they were anxious around you. But remember, people can not like what they do not wish to understand." Somehow, that didn't lift Quasi's spirit. Victor inhaled sharply, but quietly, in fear he may have said the wrong thing.

"Nice work, Victor," Laverne complimented sarcastically, giving a faux, one-handed 'OK' gesture. But then, all of their attention turned to the box their human friend brought in. "What's this?"

"It's a present," Quasi replied. "For me, I guess. But it-it doesn't say who it's from." They opened the box and looked at the treasure inside.

"Aren't these supposed to be for girls?" Hugo mused. Laverne bopped his horned head.

"Men can like jewels, too, you know, Hugo," she pointed out.

"Very curious," Victor thought aloud. They all then heard about how some kind of energy filled Quasi's mind when he had one his hand.

"And I still feel strange. I don't think these are ordinary gemstones," he concluded. Everyone quietly marveled at whatever power(s) were inside those. But for now, the trio hid the box so no one else would find them; Quasi had quite enough excitement since the Festival. And now... he just wanted some peace of mind to sort his thoughts on staying in the tower forever, if people would ever accept him, how Esmerelda made him feel, and how his master would next speak to him.
