With Jormund, I wanted to create someone more dangerous than Fred's previous enemies, a wake up call boss. I gave him a supernatural origin to contrast with previous villains who all either learned magic or had a magic item.

I also had him use different strategies to previous villains by having him attack his enemies personally as opposed to the previous villains having their minions do it. The reason why I've made Fred so unbeatable in previous arcs was to make it more shocking when he actually loses to Jormund.

I was a bit concerned about Fred coming across as Mary Suish so I had Jormund deconstruct him to add salt to the wound and even had Fred (last least temporally) give up.
