Nope, cut right to the party

The car ride was pretty uneventful, I just kept looking at and admiring David the whole time, listening to every word he spoke.

When we got to the party, most of the group hit the dance floor or the bar immediately. I ended up staying with David for a bit until a girl came running up to him.

“David!” the girl said enthusiastically.

“Monica!” David responded, somewhat nervously, “How are you?”

“Fucking great!” she said, “Who’s your friend here?”

“Oh, yeah,” David said, “Monica, this is Greg. Greg, this is my ex-girlfriend Monica.”

“Hi,” I said kindly, my jealous rage simmering quietly underneath as we shook hands.

“David!” she said, “You should come with me and meet some of my new friends! I’m sure they would LOVE to meet you. C’mon!”

She grabbed David’s hand and, against his wishes, whisked him off to talk with her friends. And now that David was gone, I was all alone at a college party I didn’t really want to be at.
