Nocturnal Interruption

The evening dinner was spent with Sarah getting caught up with her sister and trying to get caught up with her brother who in recent years had become guarded from everyone while her mother asked questions of Jill almost like a detective in a movie. There was something in her eyes that made Jill nervous not the questions themselves but something. Like when you see a bear guarding it's cubs. Jill smiled politely as she could and answered her questions as honestly as she could while trying to decipher why each question felt like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun. "And what are your plans with Sarah?" Leslie asked cutting off a piece of meat never breaking eye contact with Jill. "We were thinking about going to a coffee house tomorrow." Leslie bit into her meat and chewed slowly eyeing her knife. "And you'll be back when?" Jill seemed to be the only one to notice the icy aura she was projecting. "Well I-I don't really know the city and thought we could loo-look around." Jill swallowed hard. "Sarah should be back by eleven, no later. No sense staying out all night. Is there?" Jill shook her head. "Of course not, all manner of trouble can befall you if you stayed out too late. And I wouldn't want anything to happen to my little girl." Jill had the vague sense she'd been threatened. "Of course not I would never-" "Good." Leslie returned to her usual happy self and the feeling of impending **** left Jill. She looked around the table to see if anyone else had noticed what had transpired and found them all completely oblivious. Sarah's father was preoccupied with his phone as was his son and Sarah and her sister were still chatting.

Later that night Jill slept in the living room on a fold out couch trying to sleep finding sleeping in clothes as uncomfortable as ever. "Sorry you have to sleep on the pull out." Sarah's voice cut through the darkness as she crept into the living room and sat next to Jill. "For some reason my mom doesn't want you sleeping in my room. She usually isn't like that." Jill sat up in bed. "Yeah no, I wouldn't mess with her on that." Sarah quietly snuggled with Jill. Sarah wanted to tell her how excited she was and the reason she was still up was because she couldn't sleep for thinking about her. Jill wanted to hold onto Sarah forever but "You should probably go back to your room before your mom catches us." Sarah gave Jill a strange look but agreed. "Don't forget about our date." Sarah reminded giddily. Jill watched sarah leave, the girl may dress conservatively but there was no way to hide her perfect behind even in those flannel pajamas.
