No Problem, But I Will Need to Meet Cordelia First...

"Okay, okay." I hold my hands up. "Don't worry. I still plan on giving you girls a fair chance."

"Oh, thank you!" Melody exclaims, grabbing my hands. "You're our only hope, Mr. Wright! I don't know what I'd do if you turned me away..." She looked at me again with those big puppy-dog eyes again. And with that eye-catching cleavage as well. I clear my throat to prevent my voice hitting a high octave.

"Well, I'd still like to meet Miss Potter before I make my decision." I say.

"Of course." Melody nods. "She's down at the Detention Center. They should have finished questioning her an hour ago."

"Well, we should get going shortly." I note. "If the first day in court is tomorrow, we have quite a bit of ground to cover." Recently, the judicial system has changed to be a three-day affair to speed up the numerous drawn-out trials in this country. As such, every second of preperation before the trial is crucial. "If you don't mind me asking, Miss Fairchild, what made you think to come to me to defend your friend?"

"Please call me Melody." She smiled. "And it was actually at Cordelia's request."

"Really?"

"Yes. She said she wanted you to defend her. She's followed your career since your first case."

"No kidding..." I muse, blushing slightly. I never knew I had this kind of fan following!

"In fact, I believe she went to the same college as you." Melody says. This freezes my mind in it's tracks.

"She what?" I ask.

"She went to the same college as you. I think she mentioned attending some law classes with you." Melody taps her chin thoughtfully.

"Huh...that's interesting. I don't really recall a..." My mind flicks on like a lightbulb to a cute and sexy brunette that used to sit next to me in some of my classes. My eyes widen at the thought. "C-Cordelia! Cordelia Potter! Holy crap! I remember her now!"

"You do! That's wonderful!" Melody squealed. "She was hoping you'd remember her!"

"Oh man...I used to have the biggest crush on her..." I mumble out loud, then cover my mouth when I realize I let it slip. Melody just giggles.

"I'm sure she'd be happy to know that, considering how big a fan she is of you." The girl winks.

"She was such a bright girl in class." I say, still reminiscing. "I'm suprised she didn't end up a lawyer herself. You know...instead of...a pornstar...ahem." I cough nervously and rub the back of my neck. Melody looks away, slightly embarassed. An awkward silence fills the air, at least until a petite female wrecking ball shatters it completely.

"Tada!" Maya announces, reappearing in the hallway. Her hair was slightly neater and she had a new acolyte robe on (just how many does she have anyway?), but she otherwise looks just the same she did several minutes ago. Wait a minute...why does she keep spare clothes at the office?

Maya looks back and forth at us in confusion. "What's wrong? What's with the silence?"

"Nothing Maya." I shake my head. "We're about to go down to the Detention Center to talk to Cordelia."

"Oooo!" Maya said excitedly. "Is she our new client?"

"Maybe. I'll know after I get a chance to talk to her." I pat my blue suit pockets down to make sure I've got both my attorney badge and magatma on me. I don't want to be caught without either of them.

"Awesome!" Maya said. "Can we stop at the local burger joint and get some cheeseburgers for lunch?"

"Lunch?" I ask in confusion. "What about breakfast?"

"That's silly, Nick." Maya laughed. "You can't have cheeseburgers for breakfast!"

"I guess that makes a kind of sense." I say. Just not any sense I would consider common. "We'll see. If we do end up taking this case, we have a lot of ground to cover before tomorrow."

"All right! The defensive team of Wright & Co are back on the case!" Maya pumps a fist in the air. "So who is this Cordelia anyway?"

Melody opens her mouth, but I beat her to it. "A pornstar." I say. Maya nearly trips over her own feet.
