Chapter 41 by simmaster
Are you?
No. You're not quite alone yet.
As the warrior approaches, you notice the goblin girl from before hiding in a bush behind him. She shows you her empty quiver, gesturing to it anxiously to let you know she's got nothing to hit him with.
...But you do. Here's hoping SHE meets the stat requirements for it.
You can still feel that most of your spells are unavailable, but Shadow Trick is on the cheaper side and feels ready to cast. It won't help you get away since you doubt your ability to outrun the warrior, but it'll allow you to make a transfer unnoticed...
You cast Shadow Trick on the warrior, his eyes going black with a small puff of smoke, and he swings his swords wildly in front of him while continuing to move towards you with frustrated groans. Meanwhile, you take out your Sacrificial Dagger, hold it up to make sure the goblin sees it, and toss it between his legs.
She understands what you want from her and leaps out of the bush, running over to pick up the dagger. Fortunately, she seems perfectly capable of holding it. Just as you're about to get sliced to ribbons, she jumps up on the warrior's back with a shriek and stabs him in the neck repeatedly, a small crackle of dark energy emitting from every impact. He cries out and flails his weapon around, but after a few stabs, he falls forward.
Right on top of you.
Ouch.
*Ding!*
"Oh shit! Are you okay under there?!" the goblin girl yells and tries to roll the dead warrior off of you.
You're feeling pretty okay, though. Aside from the blunt **** trauma, that is. Because you just leveled up again. The Shadow Trick must have still been in effect, counting the warrior's **** as an assisted kill. You open your stats, hoping you got a new spell out of this ordeal.

Yes! Yeees! Sure, it's not an offensive spell. Sure, it's not very viable even as a support spell. Sure, its range isn't even good. But you FINALLY have something that will let you reach things out of your range! No more jumping up and down to reach a doorknob, no more bringing a chair to stand on in order to reach a shelf... You will be able to maintain some of your dignity and look more like a cool mage!
You close down your stats again to be met with the concerned face of the goblin girl, who has successfully moved the dead body off of you. Not that it matters much, as it has already despawned.
"Hey! You alive?!" she asks, shaking your shoulders to make sure you're not ****.
"Yeah yeah, I'm good. Sorry, I got distracted," you say as you sit up. "Thanks for saving my ass just now."
She smiles at you. "Thank YOU for letting me borrow your dagger. That was the first time I ever delivered the killing blow to a hero! It felt great!"
You chuckle and stand up. "It's a special feeling."
She stands up as well and holds out your dagger. "I suppose you want this back now."
"Hmm..." You consider for a moment. "You know what, keep it. I can't use it yet anyway, and it seems I can trust you to put it to good use until then."
She looks down at it, processing the knowledge that it's hers now, and she then jumps up and down excitedly and hugs you, her moderate bust pressing into you. "Thanks a bunch!"
You are distracted by the firmness of her hug and the softness of her body. That is, she's got enough muscle to not be all squishy, but her skin is rather soft and her breasts definitely are. Shame that contact with them is blocked by both of your clothing.
Eventually she lets you go, to your disappointment. "What's your name again?"
"Uh..." you begin, your charisma boost momentarily failing you. "Don't have one aside from Dark Trickster."
"Trickster it is, then. Thanks, Trickster. I'm Dix."
"...Dix?"
"As in 'eat a bag of Dix'."
"That's an unfortunate name."
"Really? I think it's pretty fortunate."
She gives you a cheeky grin and punches your shoulder in a friendly manner. It hurts all the same though, because you're still a weak little bitch. But you laugh it off, and the two of you make it back to the camp.
When you arrive, you find the bard tied up in the middle of the camp with a crowd of goblins surrounding her. She looks pretty bruised, so they must have beaten her up while she was helpless in the pit and then dragged her back here. Good, at least they did SOMETHING right in your absence...
What are they going to do with her?

You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
