New Life.

Anna Helsing drove along the highway heading for a new life in a new town ready for a new start. She had recently lost her husband and she was looking forward to this fresh start. As she drove she made sure to keep to the posted speed limit, so was surprised when she looked in her rearview mirror and saw the red and blue flashing lights and heard the siren. The cruiser was close to her and she pulled over and came to a stop and switched off the car's engine and felt the heat immediately as the air conditioning stopped. She looked in her door mirror and saw a tall man walking toward her and when he got closer he did the standard move of touching the rear of her car. When he got close he lent down and said "Good day Ma'am licence, insurance and registration, please." She went into her purse and asked why she had been stopped. She also looked at his nameplate and saw the name Lorensson as he replied "I pulled you over for speeding Ma'am and I have the footage on my dash cam"

He walked back to his cruiser and did some checks then returned and said to her that as she had no record he would let her off with a warning. Then he started to flirt with Anna and she just played along, eventually, he got a call and then left with his lights and siren going. Anna drove on to her destination and found the home she had purchased from her husband's insurance. When she entered she saw that all her possessions had been delivered so the interior was filled with boxes. She decided that she needed sleep more than to start unpacking boxes so headed to her bedroom and saw that her bed had been set up by the delivery company. So Anna lay down on her bed and slept until the next morning. When she woke she showered and dressed and after a light breakfast she headed out the door, and as the weather was nice and sunny she headed to her new office and her new job. She turned the last corner and saw the building in front of her and she went inside.

She walked up to the reception desk which stretch across the lobby with two corridors on either side and when she got to the man behind the desk she said: "Good morning I would like to see Chief Harrison please". The sergeant behind the desk looked at her taking her face and hair and then wandering down her body. He guessed she was a 34d as his eyes turned back to face. "I am sorry he is busy and is not seeing anyone." as Anna was about to reply a well-built man came along the corridor and smiled as he recognised Anna and walked over" Hello Anna welcome to Granston I hope you had no trouble." Anna smiled in return and said no but she had hoped to see him but was told that he was busy. The chief looked at the sergeant and told him to meet Anna Helsing the new chief of police for Granston. The sergeant gulped as his face turned red and he greeted Anna professionally and politely and apologised. Anna forgave him saying that he did not know who she was.

As the chief led Anna along the corridor towards his office they made small talk until they reached the office. Just as Anna was about to enter deputy Lorensson came into the station to book on for duty. He saw Anna heading into the chief's office and suddenly looked worried and thought to himself that she was complaining about the stop. Then he rationalised that it did not matter as the chief was retiring and the complaint would go nowhere. He headed to the locker room and dressed for his shift and as he headed out to his cruiser he bumped into deputy Sharon Maloney who was likewise heading for her cruiser. The tall well built Sharon looked at Ben Lorensson and smiled and Ben smiled back wishing that Sharon's preference was not for women when it came to sex. However, they could still be friends so when they got near to each other they hugged then got into their individual cruisers and logged in with dispatch then headed out to start their patrols.

Anna and the chief talked about the department and about Granston and how he was looking forward to his retirement. The chief also expressed his condolences on her loss which Anna thank him for. He went on to give an overlay of the officers in the department, those who were good officers and those who were not so good. They went on a tour of the station and Anna found that she would be in charge of a department of ten uniformed officers, two detectives and some station staff. The station itself had only two cells which were at the back of the station and through the door at the back that led into the back courtyard. This door was secured electronically and was open from the front desk and could be viewed by the CCTV camera in the corner that led back to the front desk monitor. At the moment the cells were empty so they headed back and said their goodbyes and Anna headed home to start unpacking her belongings.
