"We all know that you are performing well at school, Erica," my mom chastised me. "Besides, what kind of mother would I be if I didn't pack you supplies for a surprise vacation?" She pulled me into a one armed hug.

I hadn't considered that. And what could I possibly say in response to her praise?

"Now come on," my mom continued. "Let's hurry!"

My dad returned from the check-in desk. "The luggage is taken care of," he reported. I could see the boarding passes in his hand. "Your brother is waiting," he said as we started moving towards the security checkpoint.
