Chapter 27 by daciasdesire daciasdesire

Who stays in contact after the wedding?

Melissa ignores Vinny.

Thursday Night.

Melissa lay in bed at Langston’s apartment regretting her decisions. She kept the sheets tucked up under her armpits, covering her breasts, waiting for him to be done in the shower so that she could have her turn washing the shame off her body.

Langston was a fellow lawyer that Melissa knew through the courts. Originally, opposing counsel in a case two years ago. Melissa had wiped the floor with him and he’d been following her around like a love-struck puppy ever since. The Singaporean born lawyer didn’t interest her in the slightest. In fact, she found him a little repulsive with his weak cold fish handshake. She’d only agreed to go on a date with him after months of asking as a way to rid herself of the twisted, wicked feeling she felt over everything that had happened with Vinny at Alexa’s wedding.

The date had been terrible. Easily the worst she’d ever been on. It was boring and Langston had made next to no conversation whatsoever. The only things he’d tried to talk about had been his and Melissa’s work and where they both felt they might be on the partner track. Melissa looking at being made a full partner in the next year or two.

What was worse than the date was Melissa inviting herself up to Langston’s apartment, instead of just going straight home like she should of and then never accepting another invite from Langston again. To top it all off she’d come up and then rushed them both into bed. Was she trying to make up for such an appalling date or punish herself further? Melissa had been a ‘polite’ girl until Alexa’s wedding. Waiting at least three months until she’d consider sleeping with a boyfriend.

Langston had finished in the shower and came back into his bedroom with a towel around his waist. He had all the muscle definition of a wet teabag. Not like Vinny’s well-wrought muscles at all.

“There’s a towel in there for you. My mother brought them over from China when she visited last,” Langston said.

Melissa nodded.

“And Melissa,” Langston paused for her to respond.

“Yes?”

“I don’t think we should go out again after this. I’m looking for the proper sort of a woman to settle down with and consider marrying. Not someone who has relations on the first date. I thought you were different I’m sorry. It’s my fault really.”

The unbelievable nerve of this little piece of worm shit Melissa raged to herself! He’d been begging for a chance to see her outside of work and then the second she does he’s dumping her! And because she fucked him! Melissa hadn’t wanted to go out with him at all and sure as fuck didn’t want to sleep with him!

Melissa got up out of bed and started to get dressed back in her clothes again. The shower be damned. She wasn’t going to spend another second in his crappy apartment Langston’s mother probably decorated for him.

“Melissa, I hope we can still be professional around work together. I don’t think I’d like anyone to know about this,” Langston said. A touch of panic at her reaction creeping into her voice.

She wanted to punch him in his flabby stomach. Vinny would punch him she thought.

Out on the street, Melissa was still fuming. She thought about getting a cab back to her own place but decided the walk would give her a chance to cool her temper down slightly. It was as she was about a quarter of the way there that a squall started to come in and rain began falling down on her. She huddled into the doorway of an apartment block and pulled her phone out to call up a rideshare. Instead of the app for a car, she brought up the number Vinny had left for her at the reception of the hotel. Not wanting to speak to him ever again either, Melissa found herself writing out a message to Vinny instead. It simple read: “What are you doing?”

Does Vinny respond?
