Magic and the past

Frawnia, the world of the Frawnians, has very primitive technology - comparable to the ancient medieval ages back on Earth. Although they lacked science, their world still flourished with their discovery and deep understanding of magic... Yes, magic.

Riley couldn't believe it at first, but why would her own memories lie to him?

Even though no more than 1% of the population can use it, magic became a necessity for the Frawna kingdom. Magic power is so versatile that it has always been desperately sought for. As the chances of those with the affinity, to even begin to dabble on the path of becoming a sorcerer is despairingly low, those who achieves such status becomes nationally admired and treated with great respect.

One of such fortunate people is Ruri Francis Albertine of Virtue, the first in line to the Frawna Kingdom’s throne. Having inherited the blood of her ancestor, which was once a terrifyingly powerful sorcerer. Most of Ruri’s family also had shown a significantly higher chance of becoming sorcerers. Those who didn’t still managed to train in the way of the Holy Knights, which is one of the highest class of warriors that can battle on par with novice sorcerers.

At a young age, Ruri was identified to possess good affinity towards Aqua and Flora elemental particles, meaning she would be able to utilise both water and plant-based magic. Her parents were ecstatic with the news as very few people had the privilege of using two elements. Furthermore, these two types of magic compliments each other very well, enabling substantially powerful combined affects.

Time passed quickly and Ruri grew up into an extraordinarily pretty girl. Her cute, feminine charms could capture anyone’s heart at the Royal College of Magic. Unfortunately for them, Ruri was already engaged to the son of a Baron, Claudius Burton, whose family used to be knights that was granted the title for their outstanding performances alongside the King in countless wars.

Having worked hard throughout school and college, Ruri graduated with top scores and decided to specialise in the field of Aqua and Flora magic research at university… Although not everyone was pleased with her bright personality and brilliant achievements.

A civil war broke out between Ruri’s father’s faction and her uncle’s faction which uses the commoners as tools for their own gain. Uncle Zareth has always been a quiet and sly old man, however, never in Ruri’s wildest dreams could she have imagined that he would **** his own brother (Ruri’s father and the King!).

Without their king and queen, the most loyal of subjects bowed their heads towards Ruri, placing all their hopes within her.

Born as the successor to the throne, Ruri naturally has some knowledge and experience in commanding her subordinates. However, her actions were too amateur and too late. As her subordinates fell one by one in the face of the overwhelming power and numbers, Ruri could barely protect herself with her magic.

As the light of day became darker, Ruri hopped onto her horse with practiced movements and galloped far away from the castle, her sweet home, holding back her tears. Only when the top of the castle and the deadly flashes of magic light disappeared in the horizon, under the twilight of the forest, did the dams of her eyelids crumble. Tears of waterfalls fell on the horse’s pristine white mane. As if it’s able to sense its owner’s grief, the white mare slowed down its gallop into a gentle trot until finally stopping on the banks of a little stream.

Exhausted from her all-out bawl, Ruri peaked over her horse’s reassuring back towards the calm water within the stream as if it’s hypnotising her.

Small twinkling reflections of stars in the water reminded Ruri that it’s finally the end of the day. By leaning further forwards, her own reflection came into view.

There sat a pitiful girl with messy, tangled hair and swollen eyes atop a majestic silvery-white horse. Her arms hugging around her shoulders, and her body shivering slightly from the chilly night breeze.

Suddenly, a strange cloud covered half the night sky in the reflection. Then came a dazzling beam of light followed by the neighing of her horse.

This was the last thing she could remember…
