Chapter 4

Staying the night
Looks like there's room for two
It was late, and the fire was all but embers now. The Outlander shifted his arm, and Senya started awake.
"I didn't mean to fall asleep," she said, sounding embarrassed. "I've never done that before. I must be getting old," she sighed, getting up and stretching.
The Outlander looked her over. Despite the grey streaks in her brown hair, and the worry lines on her face, there were few signs of age that he could see. "Not that I can tell," he said.
"Then you must have sleep in your eyes already," she said, but with a slight quirk of her lips. "Come on, the shelter can fit two. Even you," she added, referring to his stout physique. He followed her into the low shelter and set up his own sleeping gear on the floor. As his camp mattress self-inflated, he pulled a tarp out of his gear and hung it over around the lean-to, suspending it from the rock ceiling with adhesive patches. After a few moments, the tarp changed pattern and color from a neutral tan to a perfect mimicry of the rock surface above and behind the shelter. When he re-entered the shelter, he saw Senya's pants and shirt folded next to her sleeping bag, her boots standing upright next to it. Only her head and shoulders were visible, with the white strap of either an undershirt or bra visible. She had taken her hair down - he had never seen it like that before. It was longer than he had guessed, the strands framing her face looking remarkably fine.
"Just a little extra security. Now the shelter looks like boulder with a thorough examination," he said.
Senya nodded. "Thoughtful. Goodnight, Outlander."
"Goodnight, Senya," he said, and outed the light. He removed his bodysuit - he could sleep in it, and had in the past, but it chafed if he wore it too long and he was more comfortable without - and set it next to his bag before settling into his sleeping bag.
"What was that?" Senya asked.
"I was taking off my bodysuit so I could sleep."
"Do you meant that you're naked?"
"Does it matter?"
"It's generally poor manners to get naked during a sleepover without being invited," she said, but there was a slightly amused tone to it.
"I'm not naked."
"Oh. Sleep well, then."
"You too, Senya."
"And... thank you."
"For what?"
"For being concerned about me. For grieving with me. For saving my son. For defeating Valkorian. For... being who you are."
"You're welcome. I wish I could have done more."
"So do I. But you did more than I could ever have asked."
Silence filled the lean to, broken by the rustle of fabric and wheeze of air mattress as one or the both of them shifted, trying to find an elusive sleep.
Sleep, per chance to dream?
