Limited supplies

You looked at the supplies last night, and you are sure of one thing; you cannot stay here forever. You have 8 months' worth of food; however, there is no way to replenish it after you have exhausted it. You will need to find a way out.

"Could we repair the shuttle?" Yasmin asks, trying to find an answer to the problem.

"Well, maybe, but I don't know where to start," you tell her.

"Me neither," Haruka says, following your lead, "We might be able to trek across the distance."

"No, with the cold and the wind we wouldn't get very far." Yasmin shoots down the idea.

"The Asteria is under the ice, is there a way to it?" you ask, trying to figure out a way to it.

If you can reach it, then all your problems could be solved; they would have years worth of supplies and even another craft that you might be able to escape from the cold night side with. Maybe we could use the plasma rifles? You think to yourself. No, they would quickly run out of power.

"I'm not sure," Yasmin says, "Haruka?"

If I take the core out, it might dig into the ice; but then we might freeze to ****. You continue to think.

"Maybe we could use the rifles?" She mutters out, unsure of herself.

"No," you shoot her down; the cold really digging into your core, "they would run out too quickly."

Everyone is quiet, trying to figure out an answer to the problem. How to get to a ship buried more than two miles below solid ice.

"Maybe we could use the oxygen tanks?" Haruka stammers out.

Then it hits you, I could use the backup power source, the oxygen, and a rifle to make a makeshift drill. You smile, jumping out of the chair you were in.

"Haruka, you're a genius!" You yell, smiling.

"I am?" She asks.

You inform everyone of the plan, seeing it is your only option you all agree to attempt it. You know the risks; it could blow up, killing you. But you've done more dangerous tasks, and digging a tunnel on an alien body is something you've done before; you've never dug that far before but, how hard could it be?

The three of you leave and gather the supplies needed.
