Chapter 18 by Absentedmindedspirit Absentedmindedspirit

Does She Stay or Does She Go?

Lauren's Going to Have to Catch the Bus

The real reason Lauren couldn't proceed was because her tiny tootsies were too tender for the tough tarmac. Hopping around gracelessly, Lauren managed to tap dance to the bus bench.

Lauren rationalized, however.

"I can't be seen like this! Not by my neighbors! Not in my discount UNDIES! I could never live it down. It was bad enough that cop got my car towed, I don't want to be arrested for indecent exposure! I just have to get home fast, lay low. If I walk home I'd HAVE to walk in front of two schools, the library, the candy store, and the playground!"

And, to her luck, there was a bus stop conveniently located directly in front of her house.

Lauren consoled herself, it was door to door service.

Besides, there was some time to kill, time to think, so Lauren looked around. There were some of those free newspapers, a garbage can, and an ad of a good looking lawyer on the bench. Above it was a metal awning to block the sun. The bus schedule assured her this was the correct line, and she counted the meager, greasy coins she had left, two quarters and a nickel, that felt overly large in her dainty hands.

From behind her, footsteps approach, the tell-tale sound of...

Sound of what?
