Chapter 2
Which House does Jon choose?
Lannister
“I think House Lannister would be the most advantageous choice father.” Jon answers after a long moment. “ Lord Tywin has tried for years to get one of his kin on the throne...perhaps by marrying his granddaughter I can dampen his ambitions. His wealth and army would also be a boon if it comes to war.”
Rhaegar considers it, and then nods. “The logic is sound. I shall send a raven to Casterly Rock, and then all we can do is pray for the best.” His eyes focused on Jon for a long moment. “I am proud of you, my son.”
Jon embraced his father then, and left the chamber, his thoughts swirling as he ventured to the Red Keep’s Godswood to try and quieten his mind for the days ahead. He spent many hours lost in prayer, or practicing his sword play in the overgrown garden. It was nightfall by the time he emerged. He chose to sup alone that night, eating in his own quarters as he continued to process the day’s events. His father was dying, and he was to be married soon to a maiden he had never even met before. It seemed as though his entire life had changed in an instant. He slept fitfully the night, with dreams full of Wars yet to come and blood soaked thrones.
He awoke the next morning to the sound of his chamber door opening.
