Linda's Story
Landmine brought me down

It hadn't been Linda's intention to end with things the way they were. But landmines have a funny way of not really caring about that sort of thing.
For a brief moment, it felt as if her life had flashed right before her eyes. Holding the picture of Sammi close to her chest, eyelids sliding shut.
When they opened up, the now former soldier found herself in a small room. Pushing away the covers, she saw the bandages covering her body. But then she caught a glance at the clothes and took a deep breath. Sammi would have an absolute fit if she saw her like this. But there really wasn't a choice here. Dresses had never been her forte, but this would have to do.
"I'm sorry, Sammi." she whispered, reaching for the garment. It took a few attempts, but she eventually did grab hold of the clothes.
Sitting herself up, Linda got out of what remained of her clothes and got to slipping on these new garments. Surprisingly comfortable, even if they didn't include actual undergarments.
Then came the veil. While it had taken quite a number of tries, she eventually got it. Then her gaze found something else -a a quran and the picture. Carefully, Linda slipped the picture in and began to read...
