Knock

Emma's hand lowered to the handle, but then she tapped a knuckle against the door several times instead. There would be times later to prank Jenny, Emma didn't want to mess with her cousin just yet.

Several moments passed, then Jenny finally peeked her head out of the doorway.

"Are you alone? Were you followed? Doesn't matter." Jenny said all in one breath as she yanked her cousin into her bedroom.

"What the-" Emma shrieked caught off guard as she was pulled in to the room then pushed out of the way so Jen could slam the door shut behind her.

"Shush." Was all Jenny offered up.

"Seriously, are you smoking crack in here? What the hell, Jen?" Emma asked, somewhat serious.

"Nah, just messing with you." Jenny laughed.

Should have just barged in on her, Emma thought.

Finally Emma lightened up and joined her cousin in laughing.

"I was just chatting with some guy online, but nothing serious. Which reminds me. Can you maybe, pretty please, buy us some beer?" Jenny asked, making puppy dog eyes, then adding, "I'll be your best friend."

"Tonight?" Emma asked, scrunching up her face.

"No, but maybe for the weekend, or tomorrow." Jenny replied.

Emma shook her head head but answered, "Yeah, probably. But you'll have to show me where a liquor store is around here, and do not let Aunt Maude find out!"

Jenny swore herself to secrecy.

"Now that that's out of the way, tell me about this boy." Emma prodded.

Jenny went on about this guy she had met online. His name was Craig, he was about Jenny's age. He lived near by, but so far there had only been online flirting. Emma assumed with the home schooling and the isolation of the lake house that Jenny didn't have many opportunities to meet boys.

The pair spent the rest of the evening joking around and catching up. And talking about boys.

Emma shared stories from college, some about class, most about bar hopping and parties. Jen hung on every word. Jenny was far more outgoing than James. And she was very social. She mentioned Craig having a small party, but no one to buy **** for them.

Emma had been pressured in to doing the beer run for Jen and her cyber boyfriend's party, but only if Emma was allowed to hang out and make sure nothing bad happened.

"Yeah, of course, Cuz. Like I'm going to make you buy us booze and not have you party with me. We have years of lost time to make up for. Not to mention some of Craig's buddies would love to meet you." Jenny said to her cousin's concerns.

"We'll see. Now I should let you get to bed, otherwise Aunt Maude will tan my hide." Emma said.

Jenny seemed to flinch, then looked at her bunk beds," Or, we could have a sleep over!"

Emma couldn't help but laugh. "Are you serious?"

"Hell yeah!" Jenny scoffed, "You know how much fun we could have?"

"Well not much, since you have to get up early." Emma answered.

"Oh I know. You're no fun. But we could still talk more until we fall asleep. What do you say?" Jenny asked, making her sad eyes again.
