Kevin's Even More Awkward Friend

Simon Harris always wondered how he was talked into this sort of thing.

He wasn't exactly looking for any sort of attention, life was difficult enough in high school and at home. His sister, Sam, was popular, a school sports legend, even after quitting cheerleading, and she was normal...

He wasn't looking to make her life harder, and he cringed that their parents had told her to take care of him for the weekend. She hadn't said anything in protest, but Simon felt the disappointment radiating from her that she had to drag him along to the biggest party of the year.

He wasn't really interested when Kevin asked him to be his lookout to get **** on the cheerleading clique either. The party inside was too loud, and everyone else was always moving about as always, it was disorientating, exhausting.

The only highlight was his sister's childhood friend and cheer captain, the hostess queen herself walking about in full view. Jessica Edwards - Simon couldn't keep his hazel eyes off of her, and always when he looked at her his thoughts became more vast while he became more silent.

Any time there was a glance over back to him with those emerald eyes, he'd quickly look away.

"Ugh. He's staring at me again, Sam."

"C'mon Jess. You know how he is. I had to drag him along with my parents out too."

"You want me to do something about it, babe?"

"I'd rather for something else tonight, Brad..."

Simon fell back, letting his pale auburn hair fall against the grass of the lawn and staring upward as the house continued to annoyingly vibrate from the sounds of the party inside. Kevin hadn't come back from his grand plan yet after climbing in the window. How long did it take to deploy a stink bomb anyway? What kind of circulation did the house have? Couldn't he have just done it through the vents in the air compressor or something?

He sighed, at least trying to enjoy the relative solitude this spot in the yard afforded him... until he felt something tap against his skull, "Hm?"

His fingers reached up to the object that landed atop his forehead, the emerald and gold band shimmering in the light of the evening.

A ring? Looks expensive...

He sat up to take a closer look at it before standing up and placing it on his left ring finger with genuine surprise, Huh... and fits like a glove?

"That's odd," he remarked aloud to himself, "Where did..."

"SIMON!"

He nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw not one but two people running and stopping in front of him wide eyed. One was his friend, in a sweat and looking straight at his finger, "Holy Shit! Simon..."

The other was the blonde bombshell cheer captain, her green eyes finally looking at him, but her face pale and in complete horror as she saw the ring firmly on his hand.

Before he could say anything else Kevin started laughing and gave him a shake of his right shoulder, "Man I could kiss you right now! Now give that over..."

"Don't you dare!" Jessica suddenly shrieked, grabbing the young man's left arm, "It's mine! Give it back!"

Kevin yanked him back, "No way! Simon! Trust me, just give me the ring! I'll explain everything!"

Simon's head darted back and forth confused, the way they gripped his arms hurt and the emotional demands being shouted at him were beginning to feel overwhelming, "W-Wait...why... what're you..."

Jessica nearly shrieked loudly in his ear, "No! No! I'll go get your sister! Just give it back..."

"Oh you would like that! Well tough luck! It's ours now!" Kevin yelled in triumph.

Simon couldn't take anymore and suddenly thrashed about, knocking both of them away from him and yelling loudly, "STOP! What's going on! I WISH I KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON!"
