Katie loves photography, and has loved it for as long as she could remember. Even when she was a little girl, she hardly went anywhere without a disposable camera, taking pictures of anything that caught her eye. She has a real talent for it, too. So, it was no surprise to her friends and family when she decided to go to school to study photography at Sheetwood School of the Arts.
Already a good photographer, the classes at Sherwood really helped hone her skills even further. But one class in particular was going to change everything. "Understanding Social Commentary from Art", taught by an eccentric hipster type woman, forced students to look past surface level aesthetics to find aspects of art that speak about issues regarding politics, race, sex, and culture. On top of that, the class required students to use their own artistic skills to form intelligent social commentary themselves.
For the whole semester, Katie was the star pupil in Ms. Ketting's class. Her projects were the envy of the entire class for how original and thought provoking they were.
Ms. Ketting loved Katie's contributions, but at the same time felt that Katie wasn't be challenged enough in her class. One thing that bothered her about Katie was how shy she was. Though Katie took excellent pictures of other people, buildings, and nature, not once had a picture of herself been taken for the class.
Eventually, it came time for Ms. Ketting to assign the final project for the class. In the past, she typically had all students do a project regarding a single theme, but this semester she felt like stepping it up a little. Though it requires a little extra work, Ms. Ketting decided to tailor the final project to each individual student, in the hopes that it would be more impactful on their education than a genetic project that everyone does.
Ms. Ketting thought long and hard over Katie's final assignment, but eventually came up with the ultimate project for Katie.
