Just you, in front of Candy

It caught you by complete surprise when your mom announced that you were having dinner with Candy's family on the day of. Unlike yourself, you and Candy's parents stayed on good terms and met with each other quite often. But this was the first time in literally years the children were invited also.

At first, you tried to protest but you quickly decided to go because you were secretly curious how a genuine face-to-face conversation would be with Candy after such a long time.

Once you and your mom arrived at Candy's place, you were surprised the second time that night by how differently Candy behaved at home. Throughout dinner, she was very quiet and nodded along when her mom mentioned something about her. Not at all like her prideful, school persona. Speaking of which, both of your mothers were very chatty, keeping the atmosphere from getting awkward. As for you, you couldn't help but stare at her, both because she was so beautiful up close (just across the table) and because it was a rare sight, Candy being so shy and reserved. At one point, the two of you briefly met eyes; you smiled at her but she shot you a glare.

After you finished eating, Candy's mom said to Candy, "Hey, why don't you and Sam go hang out in your room? Sam's mom and I aren't finished talking just yet." Candy grumpily obliged at led me to her room upstairs. As soon as she shut her door, Candy returned to her usual arrogant behavior. She sat on her bed while she made you stay standing facing her.

"So... you wanted to see me so bad you just couldn't take your eyes off me," she said angrily. "I wasn't staring and I was just happy to see you." you tried to defend yourself. "You see me at school every day you dork. Don't take me for a fool, I know when a guy is drooling over me," she spat out.

"You know what I mean. Being in the same room together, takes you back doesn't it?" you said, trying to lift the mood. "I don't remember you being such a creep back then," Candy said, but with less anger in her voice. She sighed then said, "I guess it has a while since we've done this." You weren't sure what to say next but hearing that, you briefly felt you might have a chance at rekindling your friendship.

While thinking of what to tell her, you absent-mindedly took out your phone and scrolled through it. Suddenly, Candy snatched it from your hand. "Hey!" you shouted and tried to grab it back but she playfully leaned back and began to search your phone. You were smiling and Candy was giggling until...
