Just the Friendly Camp Manager

Jessica saw a middle-age woman in cargo shorts, a short sleeve forest green button down shirt and khaki vest standing at a file cabinet. There was a desk with a chair behind it and two chairs in front. The woman looked up.

"Yes, may I help you?" asked the lady.

"Yes, I'm Jessie Jones," said Jessica. "I called about the counselor job."

"Oh, fantastic," said the woman. "I'm Brenda Stone, the head of the place. Head counselor, part-time electrician, plumber, carpenter, and anything else this place needs. Please, have a seat."

"Thank, you, ma'am," said Jessica. She sat down.

"Oh, call me Brenda." The woman sat at her desk. "So why do you want to be a summer camp counselor?"

"Well, I need a summer job. I'm a college student majoring in child psychology, and working with children would be a great help."

"Very good. We could use the help, Miss Jones."

"Call me, Jessie."

"Great Jessie." The woman pulled a sheet of paper from her desk. "Fill this out."

The paper was a standard employment form asking about biographical information, residency, arrests, especially for crimes against children, allergies, and such. Jessica filled it out, lying about everything but her medical history, which was pretty boring. She handed it back to Brenda.

Brenda looked over the paper. "Everything looks in order. We do need one more counselor, and you're the first to apply. I'll call you later today and let you know for sure, but I don't see why you wouldn't get the job. Would you like to look around while you're here?"

Brenda showed Jessica the cabins, cafeteria, infirmary, arts and crafts hut, swimming pool, pier, the beginning of the nature trails, archery range, volleyball court, and everything else. They shook hands, and Jessica left.

Back in the office, Brenda made a call. "You'll never guess who applied for a job...that ditzy airhead bitch reporter Jessica Johnson....yeah, she tried to pass herself off as college student....Oh yeah, she'll get the job, and I have the perfect cabin. The Hellcats are all going going to turn 13 this year...yeah, I think they ran the last counselor off in four days, and they were only 12 last year...yep, worst group of girls ever, that's why we put them all in one cabin, bunch of spoiled brats. Anyway, I think they'll keep little Miss Johnson quite preoccupied while we proceed with our plans....Yes, Miss Johnson will be an excellent subject.

Jessica arrived back home, and her phone rang. It was Brenda saying the job was hers. She needed to bring two weeks worth of summer clothes, towels, and toiletries and be at the camp a week from Thursday. The kids would arrive the following Sunday night.
