What's next?
Just his luck, he gets pulled over
Arron knew he should've stayed home today.
The police car had been sitting there in plain view at the light but he was so distracted trying to get his bearings and figure out where he needed to make the turn into the parking lot that he failed to notice the stop sign and went right past it. It took all of a few moments for him to realize what was going on when the sound of the squad car's sirens jolted him from his daze and with that, he pulled off the side onto the embankment and shut off the engine.
"Shit shit shit..." he muttered, taking a deep breath and then trying to do his best not to seem too agitated or dazed.
KNOCK KNOCK
He looked up at the officer who motioned for him to roll down his window. "Yes?"
"License and registration please."
Arron nodded at that and opened the glove box where they kept the information and after his hand grabbed the information package, pulled out the registration. He then grabbed his license from his pocket and handed it to the officer. "Thank you, be just a moment."
Arron watched in the rear view mirror as the cop went back to the car to run his license and insurance, hoping that it wouldn't be too hard to come up clean. His abstract was near spotless save a few minor parking tickets, tags were up to date, the last thing he needed right now was to have to spend some time at the court explaining his stupidity. Maybe the cop would be nice to him? Were cops here nice to people?
"Okay, you new here?" came the response and Arron nodded. "I noticed your address and the town name, Harrisburg's a bit of a ways from here."
"Yeah, my daughter and I moved here to get away after my spouse passed on."
The man nodded knowingly and handed Arron back his card and registration. "Well, you weren't going fast or driving recklessly but you need to be a bit more careful, that intersection's busy enough as it is and you went right past the sign."
"I'm looking for the Target and missed it. I'm sorry."
"Don't worry, we don't ticket people for that. Just be on the safe side okay?"
Arron flashed the officer a relieved smile. "Will do, thank you."
"No problem, ma'am. Have a nice day."
