Chapter 3 by Themanliestdude Themanliestdude

Who is the lucky guy who gets this inheritance?

Jason Houser, recent 18 year old high school graduate

Jason pulled into the parking lot of his late father's lawyer's office. It was odd, because he had been looking forward for this day for at least six months, but now that he was here, he couldn't stop being nervous and anxious over what might happen. As he entered the building, he started to replay all of the moments that lead up to this day and started to realize that he never actually took the time to process what had happened. He never took to time to actually grieve or understand. But now, sitting in the waiting lobby, he couldn't help to think back to when his father had died.

Alexander Houser was a good man as far as Jason was aware. He loved his wife, he took care of him and his sister and loved them dearly, but it wasn't for long enough as he had gotten into a sudden and unforeseen car accident when Jason was only 12 years old. The family was devastated at the time and it took quite a long time and a lot of therapy to get past it. Everybody managed to move on, but this visit to his father's lawyer was a harsh and cold reminder of his ****. One that Jason was in the process of comprehending.

Thankfully, Alexander had been able to leave the family with quite a bit of wealth and means to live off of for the rest of their lives. They would never have to worry about much in terms of monetary problems. Nobody even batted an eye when at his father's will reading, Jason was given specific instructions to come and meet the lawyer again six months after Jason had turned 18 years old. And it was a pretty handy coincidence that the day in question just so happened to be a week after Jason had graduated high school.

As Jason waited in on the slightly uncomfortable chair, looking around the room at the generic paintings of landscapes on the wall, he couldn't help but wonder what his father's inheritance to him would be. Why did it require him to wait six months after he turned 18? Why couldn't he have known earlier? Why couldn't anybody else in his family know? There were so many questions that he had, and he was determined to find out today. As stated before, it was both exciting and nerve-wracking.

He sat in the lonely looking waiting room for a solid 15 minutes, before a very tiny and young looking brunette girl walked into the room and gave a warm smile to Jason. "Ms. Wheeler will see you now, Mr. Hauser" she said with the friendly professionalism that every service worker has practiced to perfection.

Jason got up from your seat and confidently walked into the office. No turning back now. He stepped into the rather plain and professional looking office. Most of the decorations were on the desk, but the only thing Jason was able to keep his eyes on was the surprisingly beautiful woman that he only knew as "Ms. Wheeler".

Without looking up from her desk, the beautiful lawyer calmy said "Please come in Jason. And remember to lock the door completely, Alice."

"Yes, ma'am" responded the young brunette girl apparently named "Alice". Jason looked back at the door with a flash of concern as the door clicked shut and was locked rather securely by the receptionist on the other side. He looked back at Ms. Wheeler with an obvious look of confusion on his face as he slowly made his way towards the singular chair in front of the rather intimidating looking desk she sat behind.

"Apologies for the security measures, Mr. Houser." Ms. Wheeler stated matter-of-factly as she looked up and gave what was a seemingly dismissive attempt at a comforting smile. "It was a request of your father that every single bit of his will be only shared between you, me, and the people associated with the will itself."

"No, no. I understand. You're the professional, and I'll put my faith in you Ms. Wheeler." Jason said as he sat down in comparatively more comfortable chair and looked right at the lawyer's face.

"Alright then." Ms. Wheeler said with a more genuine smile this time "Let's begin."

What happens next?
