Chapter 2 by sammycolt sammycolt

Is anybody home?

It appears there isn't...

“Hello?!” Chloe shouted as she pushed the big front door to her family home open.

No answer.

“Well, great...” she mumbled to herself as the house stayed quiet. With six brothers and a plethora of foster kids and exchange students staying in the big house throughout her whole life it felt more than a little weird to find it empty. On the other hand: it was the middle of the day, the family was probably busy with school, studies, jobs and errands respectively.

She sighed, dragging her two sizable bags into the house and dropping them in the hallway, kicking the heavy door shut with a routine flick of her ankle.

“Guess I should have figured!” she shrugged. Perhaps her visit was a little too much of a surprise.

“Anyone around? The big Hollywood star is home!” she shouted into the house's emptiness, not quite giving up.

Leaving her luggage at the front door she headed for the kitchen, but found it predictably deserted. A few dirty dishes by the sink were the only evidence of the house's inhabitants, however, she spotted something that helped her overcome her disappointment at least a little.

“Score!” she grinned as she spotted a box of “Lucky Charms” sitting on the kitchen table, obviously left over from breakfast. Her stomach grumbled a little and without any remorse she grabbed the cereal. You leave it, you loose it... in a house with seven siblings an opportunity like this needed to be taken.

With her prize in one hand, happily snacking away Chloe continued her hopeless search of family, checking the living room and the garden with no luck.

“Hello?!” she shouted again as she headed towards the stairs, “This is a **** bust! Come out with your arms raised!”

Tilting her head she listened for a moment, but when she still detected no movement she finally gave up. It seemed, her surprise visit had misfired a bit... The worst thing was: Now she had to carry her luggage up to her room on her own!

Accepting her fate, Chloe headed back to her bags, chewing her cereal as she began carrying them up into her room.

-

While her parents occasionally rented her room out to people or used it as a guest room, it was still more or less her room and ever since she had moved out to become a Chinese pop star it had been ready for her on her return, waiting for her.

To her delight it seemed like her mum, despite not expecting her for another couple of days, had already prepared it for her. Dropping her bags once more carelessly, Chloe plopped down on the teenager bed. The sheets were fresh and soft and after her journey they felt like heaven. Blissfully Chloe closed her eyes and felt her body relax for a second. She was not tired, but she felt spent, so she let herself rest for a couple of minutes, stretched out on top of the sheets.

So nobody's home... What's Chloe going to do to pass the time?
