Chapter 10
by philipcollin
What to do now?
It Begins
As you start to leave the room you feel a sudden immense surge inside your mind and a wave of dizziness sweeps over you, making you grope around for a table to lean on. The feeling continues to rage through your mind, and a slow thumping begins to build up, the world around you beginning to swim, and your entire body feels like it is under immense pressure.
As suddenly as the feeling hit, it disappears, leaving you dazed and confused. The world fades back into focus, and you stand up, bewildered about what just happened.
You leave the classroom and head back to the physics block, something however feels wrong, as if the whole world were slowly sliding into the abyss. You put the feeling off as just your imagination, and continue to move towards the physics building.
A sudden scream rips through the air, coming from the entrance to the physics building just ahead. The doors slam open and a stream of people sprint out of the block, running in the haphazard fashion of a crowd caught by terror.
A grind of protesting stone comes from the suddenly emptied block, and you can see that the blocks of stone surrounding the doorway slowly deform outwards.
With a loud roar a huge figure shoulders its way through the front of the block, chunks of broken rock showering down around its massive torso. As it breaks out of the wrecked entrance to the block it throws its massive head around, seeming to look for something.
You stand rooted to the spot by a mixture of surprise and terror, and can do nothing but study the giant beast.
The beast is roughly humanoid in shape, though with red coloured skin and horns and other sharp protrusions peppering its body. It wears a large loincloth around its waist, and has clawed feet. The thing that rooted you to the spot is, however, its face. A huge fanged mouth dominates the head of the beast, many rows of teeth descending back into darkness. A pair of glowing red eyes sit above the mouth, burning with a terrible anger.
The beast jerks its head upwards, throwing bits of rock high into the air, and takes a few steps forward, out of the wrecked face of what was the entrance to the physics block. With a jerk the head stops waving, and fixes itself on one specific individual in the fleeing crowd. With surprising speed the beast lunges forward, barging through the fleeing mass and grabs someone. As the beast lifts the struggling figure into the air, you recognise the identity of the hapless victim.
It was Dave, your physics teacher. Well, potentially your ex physics teacher.
You watch helplessly as the beast lifts the man up to its head, and looks at him with a kind of perverse curiosity, before reaching up with its other hand and gripping him around his shoulders.
With an immense heave the monster rips the man in two, and tosses the severed halves of a human being far away from itself, before lifting its head up to the sky and bellowing a guttural cry of victory.
Suddenly the monster for fades, and then, with a flash, disappears entirely. You feel a suction pulling you towards the place the monster stood as the air rushes in to fill the vacuum left in the monsters wake, a muffled boom rolling out as the walls of air collide.
The only sound remaining are the fading cries of terrified people, the only indication of the monsters existence being the wrecked building and a faint spray of blood along the ground.
You stand dumbfounded, trying to understand what you had just witnessed, feeling nothing of the cold wind that rushes past you. What are you to do now?
What do you do now?
