It’s a simulation

Captain America appears to you in the pitch blackness, yet he is somehow perfectly illuminated.

“It’s a trick, Bruce. Just hold on.”

A trick? This feels familiar to you somehow. Kinda like one of those comic books you like to read with little Rick and Thaddeus. What’s going on? Are they okay?

“Mysterio. He’s getting into your mind.”

This doesn’t track. When did Mysterio ever fight the Avengers? You remember him mostly bothering Spider-Man. Confused, you tell Captain America so.

He brings you back to the dining room and asks if you are okay.

None of this makes sense. Maybe if you just go clear your head.

Your wife Betty starts repeating herself from earlier, going on about how the food’s getting cold. You look at the door and tell everyone you’re going out for some air.

“Bruce, no! Stay put!”

How can this even be coming from your friend? Everything is wrong. They can’t stop you.

When you walk through the doorway, everything changes into the Avengers mansion. All of the Avengers are waiting for you.

Wolverine’s asking you not to get angry and Black Widow is speaking nonsense about the sun getting real low. Thor asks commands you not to leave. You’ve had enough 5 minutes ago.

You clap your hands together as hard as you can, the shockwave taking out the entire team save for the Vision. That makes sense, he can phase through your thunderclap. You’ve killed him before years ago but he moves before you can, putting his hand into your head and everything starts to go dark as you fade into unconsciousness.
