Chapter 13

What's next?
It's a beautiful new day
Roy woke up the next day. He'd been having the weirdest, most wonderful dream. He dreamt that his best friend turned his dog into a cute, foulmouthed sexpot, and in the process, fucked up the world by retroactively creating human-intelligence dog people. He also dreamt that he had three lifetimes worth of memories, as clear as day, pounding around in his skull. He couldn't explain where his brain had concocted such a ridiculous scenario, but if he was going to have weird dreams like that, then at least he could enjoy the fact that this one ended with him balls deep in quite possible the most incredible woman he'd ever seen.
As he gained consciousness, and became aware of the world around him, a few things immediately struck him as strange.
One; he wasn't in his dorm room. As the sun shone in through the curtains over the bed he was in, he could see that the walls were covered in posters of... professional wrestlers? That was odd. He didn't watch pro wrestling. Hell, nobody he knew had watched pro wrestling, except for the occasional goofy clip on youtube.
Two; he was naked, except for his socks. And Roy knew he didn't sleep naked; he shared his dorm with another dude, so sleeping in the nude would be pretty awkward.
Three; curled up, her head resting on his chest, was the woman from his dream, her doggy ears twitching slightly as his breath caught in his chest, her adorable countenance as irresistible as it was when he caught her sleeping the night before.
Alright, maybe that third one was a little more pressing than the other two. Roy stared up at the ceiling, and tried to piece his thoughts together. He... didn't dream that. Sam had fucked up the planet. Sam had fucked up all of human history. And he had fucked Sam's dog-sister.
Well, this might make for an awkward morning. Gently, he moved Gwen off of his chest and back onto the bed, and he was glad to see that she was a heavy sleeper, because it didn't seem to wake her. He got out of bed slowly, so as to not disturb her, and quickly put his pants and shirt on. He moved ever so quietly to the door of the room, and out into the hallway, closing it behind him. And standing there, at the end of the hallway, looking right at his guilt ridden face, was Sam.
"Hey Roy," Sam greeted him. He was wearing a cooking apron and holding a spatula in his hand. "I'm making breakfast, and it'll be ready pretty soon. Could you wake up Gwen for me?"
"Uh, yeah. No prob, I guess," Roy replied, mentally breathing a sigh of relief. Maybe Sam hadn't caught on? It wouldn't surprise Roy, Sam was always kinda dense when it came to reading people.
"Thanks," he said. Before Roy could reach back for the door, however, he continued. "And next time you guys do that, could you try to keep it down? My room's right next door, after all."
Roy stared at him, the heat rising to his face in embarrassment. Before he could retort, Sam was gone, headed back to the kitchen. That was... unexpected? But with how loud they were, he really should have seen this coming.
He moved back into the room, and over to the bed. He reached down and placed a hand on her shoulder, gently. "Gwen," he said quietly, "Wake up. It's time for breakfast."
She yawned, and batted his hand away. "Nuh. Sleep," she replied groggily as she lay on her side facing him.
Roy shrugged, and sat down on the bed beside her. He put his hand behind her ear, and absentmindedly began scratching her head, like he did the night before. She giggled a little, still groggy, as her tail started wagging against the bed. Eventually though, she reached up and batted his hand away again. "Stop, I was having a good dream."
Roy laughed. "I had a good dream last night too."
She kept her eyes closed, but smiled nonetheless. "Whatcha dream about?"
"I dreamt that the most beautiful girl I ever met told me she liked me."
She giggled again. "You're so fucking cheesy, Roy."
"So what did you dream about?"
She smiled, opening her eyes to look up at him. "I think you know, you studmuffin."
Roy laughed. "Well, since you're up now, want to get breakfast? Sam's making something for us."
She groaned, and put her pillow over her face. "It's gonna be so awkward, though. We're gonna have to tell him that we're... like, a thing now, and shit."
Roy felt himself getting red again. "Uh, I think he already knows."
She groaned louder.
"I think he heard us last night."
She groaned even louder. "I need to get out of my fucking parent's house."
*
It wasn't long before she was dressed, and luckily for both of them, breakfast wasn't quite as awkward as they anticipated. After a hearty meal of waffles, bacon, and eggs, Sam excused himself from their little meeting, as Roy and Gwen placed their dishes in the sink to soak.
"I'll be doing calculations, and recalibrations to the device today," he said, "and as such I likely won't be leaving the basement. Mother shouldn't be home from her business trip until tonight, so the two of you can have the house to yourselves if you like."
Roy nodded, appreciating his rather un-Sam like tact. "Alright, I'll probably be around if you need me."
Gwen nodded as well. "I'll be with Roy, I was just gonna chill up here and watch TV anyway." As soon as Sam had left the room, she looked over to Roy, getting his attention. "If you're not doing anything else today though, I've got a gift card for the theater. We could go see that new superhero movie or something."
Roy smirked at her as he rinsed off a couple of forks. "Aw, Gwen, are you asking me on a date?"
She smiled back. "Yeah, I am, asshole. You down to clown?"
"Absolutely. I'm always down to watch dudes in skintight outfits punch each other," he joked.
She laughed. "Well then maybe I should take you to a wrestling match sometime."
He cringed a little, but laughed it off. "Your car or mine?"
She raised an eyebrow suspiciously at him. "Is your car clean?"
He tried not to look too guilty, but of course, he failed utterly. "Umm..."
She scoffed at him. "Yeah, we're taking my car. Go take a shower and get dressed, I want to get there before it gets too crowded."
"Fine, fine," he sighed, dropping the last of the utensils in the sink. He tried not to sulk too hard at how easily she saw through him. But then again, they had known each other for years, so it made sense he couldn't really hide anything from her. And as much as he was looking forward to a day out with Gwen, Roy had to remind himself that he still needed to be educated about this new world. Although his headache was gone, he still couldn't recall exactly what was going on with dogs in this new world. It was only a matter of time, after all, before he said or did something embarrassing due to his lack of knowledge.
So how's our boy gonna get ready for this first date?

Retroactive Lifetime Manipulation
It's like time travel, but not at all, and also everybody ends up fucking
Roy Springwood has known Samuel Haddonfield since they were kids. Sam's a scientist, or so he claims; Roy knows by now that his pseudo-scientific "theories" wouldn't seem out of place in a low budget science fiction movie. But one day, Sam shows his best friend a magnificent machine, able to change someone's entire life, as though it had always been the way they envisioned. Or rather, the way the machine's operator envisioned. Assuming, of course, everthing goes to plan... Now accepting chapters from authors other than myself!
