It's All About Teamwork

The last thing you remember, or dreamt, was taking a big gasp, as though you had just held your breath for as long as you could. And then, you flutter your eyes open to see that two people are looming over you: Supergirl and J'onn. He was holding a clipboard with your stats, no doubt, while she looked relieved as soon as you open your eyes.

"Shad," Kara cheered, looking as though she were about to cry tears of joy. "You're ok." You groan as you try sitting up in your infirmary bed, but she tries to be gentle in pushing back down. "Take it easy. You were dead a couple hours ago..."

"Wh..." It was like a cobweb was woven around your vocal cords, so you clear your throat and try to talk again. "What happened?"

"Batman made a completely reckless choice in shutting down your nanobots," J'onn explained. Then he looked over his notes. "But remarkably, despite the damage to your mind and muscles, you persisted to win at all costs."

"And it did cost you." Kara turned her head to conceal the hurt in her eyes.

"Fortunately," J'onn continued, "the combined works of Atom and Zatanna were able to reactivate your REGEN project."

"And then Captain Atom used solar energy to revive you more quickly," Kara added. You smile gently at her, thankful that the Justice League would do all that for you. Kara mirrored your expression, and placed a hand on yours. "Get some rest. You impressed a lot of us today, especially Batman. And that is nothing short of a miracle." You chuckle as she finished, "You earned it..." So, not wanting to go against your friend's orders, you close your eyes and lie there.

You really did nod off because when you next woke up, you had two beautiful views: the earth amongst the stars outside your window, and Shayera who grinned at you as both your eyes met. "Hey there, tiger..." she mused softly.

"Shayera, hi," you smile. You didn't know it, but Hawkgirl was having deja vu by being in the infirmary with another recuperating League member. "Listen, about what happened between us... I--"

"Save it," she interjected with her hand raised to her chest, then put it down. "The chemicals affected my libido and I felt unable to think clearly. I shouldn't have called you out like that..." She then turned her head to one side, and you could barely see her... blush? "John and I aren't even dating, and even though I can't let go of him..." She rolled her eyes towards you. "... what you did to me was..."

"Unforgivable?" you guessed, but she grinned at you.

"Unforgettable," she corrected. And she got up and sat on the bed beside you.

"Shayera...?" You were admittedly a bit nervous about what she was going to do next.

"The first time me and John admitted feelings for each other," she confessed, "our first kiss...? It happened after a mission. He got hurt, I looked after him, and one sentence led to another. I told him that it wouldn't work out, but... he was persistent."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Who knows?" she chuckled. "Maybe I'm just toying with you. Maybe I need a sympathetic ear." She leaned closer to you, her voice getting a bit husky. "Or maybe... I have new feelings for someone else." Your eyes lightly quivered as you couldn't believe what she was hinting. "I shared a bed with you, and you 'took me to bed'," she smirked, "but how do you really feel about me?"

You silently gave your answer by kissing her cheek. But when you kissed the other, you stopped yourself from going down. You looked at each other, and you quickly look at her lips before returning to her gaze... Her soft, warm breaths tickled your skin as the moment seemed to linger for hours, until... You both connect your lips for a tender kiss, and you hold her cheek and her hand on your shoulder either kept you in place or make it deeper.

Either way... You will never forget the best kiss of your life, or your budding love for Shayera Hol.
