Introduce yourself to the captain.

You decide to put off your headache for the future and introduce yourself to the captain. Sure, it looks like an ensign is sucking up to a superior for a quick promotion, but anyone who spent anytime with Dr. Lo isn't going to fault you too hard.

"Good morning Captain," You say getting her attention.

"Good morning, ensign. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Not at all. I figured I'd introduce myself to you since my panel is currently occupied."

"I see. You must be my chief engineer then. Take a seat," She motioned to the empty chair beside her and you happily sit down. "It's not everyday that an ensign, such as yourself, joins me on the bridge." She smiled.

"I heard you give great tours of engineering," the first officer smirked.

"Absolutely, Commander. I'll gladly give you one too if you promise not to yell too often," you chuckled.

"Now, now you two," the Captain interrupted. "It's not polite to insult our prestigious guest even if she might come of as a bit abrasive."

You look over quickly at your panel to make sure that Dr. Lo was still busy and didn't notice she was the topic of discussion.

"Thank goodness. I thought I was the only one getting her treatment," you say.

"Me saying this stays between the three of us," the captain gave you and the commander a serious look. "I've met her on several occasions already and she's always been this way. It's like being angry at better physicists drives her to be the best."

"Maybe your hobby on the ship should be to make a better engines than her."

"Believe it or not, Number One, you weren't the first to come up with that idea. I've heard from another captain that anyone who's ever tried that burns out or they just can't keep up with her."

"Well, we'll see. I'm sure Astrofleet wouldn't mind a competition if it results in better ships," you say and lean back in the chair.
