Interruption

Suddenly I'm startled by a loud voice and I let go of the glass, it falls on the floor and the glass splinters go everywhere.

“And where did you think you are coming from.” It’s my mother, shouting from the living room.

“Just a party.” Apparently, Cat is back and she woke up Mom in her chair.

“A party, didn’t I say you couldn’t go this weekend.”

“Mom, I’m 24, I can do what I like.”

“It’s the principal Cat, I wanted to have a family weekend, and that means putting your plans to the side for once.

“A family Weekend, you were passed out in your chair. You were as much here as I was.”

“I…”

“See, you can’t even defend it. Just let me have my parties while I’m young.”

“It’s just…”

“Yeah, you don’t want me to get ****, ****, or worse, pregnant because my sports career will be gone then. And that would be a disaster for you because then I failed like you did when you were young.”

“Go to your room, this instant.” I heard my mother say with a kill and harsh voice.

“I was planning to anyway,” Cat said and I heard her footsteps on the stairs.

“And I expect an apology tomorrow morning.” I hear my mother yell up the stairs.

“Apology my ass,” Cat yelled back and stormed into her room.” The house felt silent for a moment. “And who is still awake in the back?” My mother yelled. I felt caught, she probably had heard the glass break.

“I am, I couldn’t sleep,” I shouted, only was I, not the only one, Lilly had shouted roughly the same thing. I roll out of the bathroom and see my sister standing in the doorway. She wears a long T-shirt, only the T-shirt is inside out, with the label on the front. I look at her and she at me. We stare into each other's eyes and both wonder how much the other person knows of what we just did. Our mother comes around the corner and sees us standing.

“Great, the whole family is up.” She said with a sigh.

“Sorry.” I said, “Couldn’t sleep, sore throat.”

“Ah.” She replied and looked at Lilly. “And you?”

“I eh, just woke up from the shouting,” Lilly says. But I could see her cheeks turn red from the lie.

“Yeah, sorry about that.” My mother says a lot calmer.

“You guys could have woken me up, after the film.”

“But you looked so peaceful,” I said quickly.

“Yeah we didn’t want to disturb your rest,” Lilly added.

“That is sweet of you guys. Well, I, thank you… Johnathan, did I hear something break back here?”

“Yeah, I dropped a glass when you shouted.”

“Sorry about that, well I shall clean that up and go to bed. Let me get the vacuum.

“Thanks, Mom,” I replied and Mom walked away.

“So you woke up from the shouting huh?” I said and turned to Lizzy, she looked at me.

“Yeah, I did, now if you don’t mind. I go back to bed.” She said with a straight voice. And with that said, she turned around and slammed her door shut. Giving me just a second to notice two things. One, when she turned around, her t-shirt lifted just a little bit, so I could see her white ass cheeks and realize the fact that she wasn’t wearing any panties and two, just before she closed the door I could see a large white candle lying on the floor of her bedroom that was still smoking.
