Customise game settings

Before you proceed

If you haven't already started the game, click Start Game in the sidebar. This will ensure that variables used to determine story events are set up correctly.

You can set your character's first name and last name by clicking Customize in the sidebar and changing the default values.

The game uses certain variables to create the illusion of random events. Some story chapters (especially chapters that are key to winning the game) are only available when these variables are in a specific range of values. As you proceed through the story, the search variable will slowly increase from 0 to 100 and back to 0. The game also uses S1, S2 and S3 as variables that can be either true or false. These variables flip between true or false randomly when you search the Workshop. (A 'night' variable was added during development, but currently its value doesn't affect anything in the game.)

You can use the chapter links below to change the starting value of the search variable, if you want; this will change the order in which you're likely to see some events.
