Chapter 12 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What do I tell Rosa?

I tell her about the time I ruined my parents' kitchen (Pink Trigger)

I decided to go with a charming story to suit the mood. I gave her a little embarrassed sigh, running my hand through my blonde hair for a moment, before reciting the story of when I was younger and decided to play sports in my parents' kitchen, where they cooked for customers. Oh, I decided that my parents were small restaurant owners in this story. Don't worry about that canon; it's not true.

To demonstrate, I grabbed a simmering pot with a long handle off of the nearby wall. I told her about how my friends and I thought we could use eggs just like baseballs; we were determined to knock them all around the kitchen and run imaginary bases. When we found the eggs splattered instead of gaining any distance, it just made us that much more determined to find some way to use them. By the end of the night, the whole room was covered in egg-yolks and my father was furious.

The story delighted her, though her response was tinged with a hint of distant sadness.

"Ha ha ha... It sounds like you had a lot of friends your own age when you were younger. I'm a little jealous! Also, I'll bet your father took it a lot better than ours would have..."

Ah, Rosa... You've had a painful life. I need only a bit of time to make up for the sadness you've experienced. Alas, my time is almost up.

As if to emphasize the point, I saw something fly through the air near my head. Rosa hadn't thrown it... it had come from the servant's entrance. She may not have noticed that one, but she noticed the next ones; her wail screeched through the kitchen as many sharp objects came through the door towards me. I still had my barrier, so I beat away one after another; to her, it might look like I was batting away targets with a pot, just as I'd told her I had in my story.

Unfortunately, this one didn't have a happy ending. Exhausted after repelling so many items, I swung my pot one more time, only to find that the item coming towards me was a long, iron fireplace poker rather than any kind of small item. The item lodged itself in me, causing me to spin towards the kitchen wall and hit there. I collapsed in a noisy pile of pots and pans.

Sharing a nice conversation with Rosa had been its own reward, but it was all lies... from my story possibly to her own reaction.
