Chapter 10 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What happens next?

I anticipate and deflect an attack before arriving at the kitchen (Pink Trigger's Power >49)

It was a short walk from the dining room to the kitchen; servants came this way all the time. The kitchen ought to be empty, with all of the servants attending people at the family conference. Furthermore, I'd just let all of Kinzo's children in the dining room.

So who was attacking me with an iron poker?!

Just as I'd nearly made it to the kitchen, I sensed the attack. At the last moment, I erected a pin-point barrier, like Ronove might, blocking with just one arm. There had been a lot of **** behind that attack, and yet, when I turned to see who was behind it, the hallway was empty. This was the work of a demon... Can't I just hunt a human without demons getting in the way?

Rosa was walking in front of me and saw nothing of the attack; I didn't bother telling her about it either. There were enough distractions without her worrying about some demon with an iron poker jumping down from the ceiling and skewering her. If keeping that information to myself seems cruel of me, remember this: I have no illusions of saving everyone on this island from their fate. That is beyond me. I can only hope to express as much of my love as possible before moving on.

There. We'd made it to the kitchen. Rosa turned to be with that same sympathetic expression, laying out in the nicest possible terms the family's reasons for the argument. The money troubles. The suspicion of Krauss's use of the funds. The children, who were innocent sufferers in all of this. The frustration of the family, who wasn't allowed to see Kinzo. I nodded along with all of it. Now... how would I respond to Rosa's earnest plea?

How will I respond to Rosa?
