Chapter 5 by GenericEditor168 GenericEditor168

Now then, there are just two more questions to answer - are you a Pyro, a Beast or a Toxin? And who is your assistant?

I'm a Beast, and my assistant is a male Draconian.

You look around, taking stock of your lab. Let's see... samples are secure, so they won't accidently contaminate projects. You've got two batches going, one experimental, one tested. According to your research notes, the tested one is a potion of strength, it uses bear blood, a herbal mixture and a bit of applied magic from your equipment to create a mixture that increases strength markedly for little tradeoff in intelligence. It's a recipe you discovered quite early in your career, and it’s provided a good source of income for you while you conduct your experiments.

Speaking of which, the other batch you’re preparing is something more exotic, more of a personal scientific project then anything you’d want to sell to the adventuring market. It’s an attempt at creating one of the precursors to the Elixir of Eternal Life.

Contrary to popular belief, the secret to eternal life is known. In fact, several different ways to eternal life are known – through magic, demonic pacts, and alchemy, to name only a few. The problem lies in acting on that knowledge. For instance, the Elixir of Eternal Life requires three reagents made by complex alchemy, three rare resources, water, and time.

You think you may have figured out how to make one of the reagents, so you’re overseeing that work today, while your assistant will be finalising the production of the strength potion, as soon as... ah, here he is now. The elusive Rakis Ximridyss. Your assistant, prone to sleeping in and missing work... and one of the smartest Draconians you’ve ever met. He knows his alchemy, even if he never seems to be around to practice it.

You look him over. He's wearing a robe, and you'd guess nothing else. He's fairly average height and weightwise, and he's got red scales. Nothing overly special. You look much like him, except with icy-blue scales and a series of pouches around your waist that contain your more portable alchemical equipment.

"Hello Rakis. You're just in time. I've got a batch of the normal mix on, usual spot, and I need you to finish it." He nods, and heads over to the retort, picking up a vial of bear's blood on his way past.

What's your relationship with Ximridyss?
