Chapter 4

Left Hand Man
Plan B? What's that?
Hunting
You had initially rejected this plan, for two reasons. Firstly, you weren't sure it would work, and secondly you needed to go harvesting anyway. Now, however, you had ****. You walk deeper into the forest, and eventually find what you were looking for
Sweet Grass, (uncommon) ????
You jumped again at the pop up. I really have to get used to that. You thought. Still, at the moment you didn't really care about annoying popups. What did care about was the fact that this particular grass was, for some reason, incredibly alluring to the native wildlife. It did smell sweet, but you knew from experience that while it tasted good, it was actually a pretty powerful soporific. (You wish you'd known that before you ate it for the first time, but you didn't know you could check back then.) Still, most of the animals around here couldn't seem to make the connection between eating it and the **** drowsiness that came afterwards, so it was an effective bait. In fact, now that you think of it...
Sweet Grass (uncommon)
A dark green grass with a sweet smell. It contains a naturally occurring soporific that induces severe drowsiness in those who eat it. When distilled, it becomes the main ingredient in sleeping potions, and can be included in some other potions for secondary effects.
Well that would be helpful, if you knew how to make sleeping potions. You gingery picked some and brought it to a convenient clearing a little ways further into the forest. You carefully smear some on a few trees at the edge of the clearing, then lodge the rest in a conveniently low-hanging branch to prevent small critters from getting at it. After that, you settle down at the edge of the clearing to wait. You knew from experience that you naturally smelled like goat, despite the fact that you were an omnivore, so prey were unlikely to be afraid of you.
For the first two hours, you see nothing besides squirrels and the occasional rabbit. They aren't what you're after (and you're not sure you could catch them anyway) so you leave them alone. Soon after that, however, you spy your prey. The deer stepped cautiously into the clearing as you stayed absolutely still and held your breath. Slowly, it approached the hanging branch and raised it's head to try and nibble the Sweet Grass. After a few moments of struggling, it finally reared back on it's hind legs and planted it's front hooves against the tree. As as soon as it was off balance and completely focused on it's meal, you lower your head and cast Charge. You were astounded at how fast you closed the distance between you and the deer. The beast only had time to raise it's head in surprise before you crashed into it's side with a mighty CRACK. The deer went flying away from you and smashed into a tree. It fell to the ground dazed. You stared at it in shock. _Is that what knockback is?_ You thought wildly. If it was really that effective... This could be your trump card. You put your thoughts aside, however, when you saw the deer struggling to it's feet. It only had about a third of it's health bar left, and it's back legs were obviously broken. You quickly crossed the clearing, gently placed your hands around the deer's neck and twisted, putting it out of it's misery.
Now, you realized belatedly, you had a problem. The carcass was far too big to fit in your inventory, even if you dumped everything else out. If you were an adventurer, you'd probably just clumsily butcher it. The thing was, you weren't an adventurer, which ment you a) didn't have the right skills or tools and b) couldn't afford the waste something like that would produce. At the very least, you needed it's skin for your bed. You stared at the carcass for a moment, thinking, then nodded abruptly. You picked up the carcass and slung it over your shoulder. Since it was killed by blunt **** tramua, there was at least minimal blood seepage to stain your fur. (As it was, you were going to have to bathe before hunting again.) Then you set off into the forest at a steady walk. You had a plan for how to get that carcass taken care of, you just hoped it wouldn't blow up in your face.
What's that plan, then?
