Chapter 22 by gunde gunde

Do you find what you came here for?

Hopefully

You and Ashley do your best to remain completely still as you keep your ears peeled and your eyes wide open for any signs of movement. After waiting for an entire minute, you decide that this part of the garage at least is void of any people, and begin to move forwards, doing your best to keep your steps as quiet as possible.

With Ashley following you with a space of about two feet separating the two of you, you try to combine looking for a usable car and looking for any potential threats. For a long enough while, you find neither of those. In fact, this entire floor is filled with cars that all look to be damaged beyond easy repair, with quite a few of them having been transformed into burnt-out hulks of twisted metal. As for people, there are a few corpses and nothing else.

After a brief discussion consisting of quickly pronounced whispers, you and Ashley agree to continue to the second floor. With you walking point, the two of you enter the staircase and proceed to carefully ascend the two flights of stairs that lead up to the heavy metal door which constitutes the entrance to the second floor. You kneel down and aim your shotgun at the door while Ashley presses her juicy ass up against the wall and pushes down the handle on the door before pushing the entire thing open. Your heart skips a beat as you see a body just a few yards away from you on the other side of the doorway, but you keep your head and keep from shooting at the figure. It’s a dead body, splayed out across the hood of a banged-up Ford sedan.

Letting out a sigh of relief, you rise up and enter the second floor, once again with Ashley following close behind you. Again you are not confronted with any threats, but you’re lucky enough to find a car that might just be what you’re looking for. It’s a Toyota pickup truck, the exact kind of vehicle that one of your favourite TV-shows hailed as indestructible, and it looks to be in a pretty good state, if you don’t count the smashed right-side window and the two slashed tires.

“This might do,” you tell Ashley.
“I don’t want to seem picky or anything, Alex, but that truck will hardly even roll properly.” Ashley objects and she does have a point in her objection.
“So we’ll find another one and takes the tires from that one,” you tell her, and then move towards the pickup. Once you’re there, you start clearing out the shattered glass from the window frame on the right, only to suddenly be interrupted by a sharp clicking noise.

Looking across the Toyota’s seats, you find that Ashley has taken a simple thin, straight piece of metal from some other car and used it to open the door. Being reminded by this of the fact that you don’t an awful lot about her, you allow her to climb across the seats and open the door on your side, and then you begin to wipe away all of the glass, standing in rather odd position to avoid being hit by the shards of glass as they rain down on the concrete floor. While you’re doing that, Ashley locates the car’s tool kit, which you’ll need if you’re going to be able to find a few wheels.

Will you? Or will you find something else?
