Chapter 11 by Sloth013 Sloth013

What now?

Hope for the best, expect the worst

"Oi, you alive in there Yazas?" You hear. Looking up, you can make out the nymph from the crack in the door.

"Yeah. That... human was here to talk not kill me." You explain as you pop your head out. The fog is thin today, causing you to squint at the light.

"What about?" She asks. You go on to explain what the admin explained. "So these mountains are getting an update? I guess we'll see more hero's around then. Think you'll survive very long?" She smirks.

"Probably, but I've got a lot to do to build up my lair, and i have to figure out my weapon situation." You say, trying to think up a plan.

"Have you tried taking a weapon? Or figuring out how to craft things?" She deadpans.

"What new hero am i going to find around here to kill and hopefully steal a weapon from?" You ask.

"I don't know, maybe a monster than? You killed that ogre pretty effectively." She points out.

"And your still pissed at me because of it." You reply.

"Well it certainly wasn't a gift basket. Hey what about that hero settlement?" She inquires. "Couldn't you sneak in and craft some things or steal a weapon and return?"

"Hm. That could actually work. The only problem is the human said that the update will come within 3 and 5 days. Utnop is roughly a 2 days travel if i stop for the night." You explain.

"Then only sleep for a few hours and utilize the night." She says. You sit in debate for a few minutes, mulling over the possibilities.

"Very well then. I shall rush to Utnop and raid a store or garrison." You announce.

"Try not to die in the process. You're annoying, but I'd prefer you over dealing with some other headache." She says glancing away.

"Thank you?" You question. It was kind of a compliment, you guess. But coming from her, that's probably the best you'll get. She nods before re-entering the falls, done with this conversation.

When you return to the lair, you catch a quick glance of the shadow. You wave it over before commanding it to retrieve the badger and pebble golem. As you wait, you add a few more additions to the tunnel system you have designed. In a few minutes it returns, said minions behind it. "Minions, i shall be leaving for roughly 4 days, hopefully 3, to retrieve some supplies from the nearby town. Pebble golem, continue excavation of the lair, but now i have a few more additions to add. I want to see great progress, if not completion when i return." It gives you a tiny salute before it returns to it's work.

"Shadow, continue with your earlier instructions, but if the water nymph from the falls appears, you do not need to be alarmed." The shadow nods before assuming it's post above the door. Finally you turn to your badger.

"You are to hide out in the woods. If you can, kill a few low level monsters and level up. If not, don't push your luck. If you can collect any materials do so. Every so often check on the lair to see if i have returned." You instruct. It gives you a kind of grunt before exiting the lair.

Now that your underlings are taken care of, you quickly check your inventory to see how much food you have. Seeing as you have some rabbit meat left you exit the lair, leaving the doors open.

...

Following the nymph's plan, you travel quite far the first day, and only rest for a few hours before continuing the walk towards Utnop. By the middle of the second day you can see the walls of the town. The trip luckily was overall uneventful. As you wait for night fall you observe the guard detail, trying to find the best way in.

The town itself is small, having wooden walls and dirt roads. There are a few stores and one large inn creating revenue for the place. The front gate is currently guarded by two men, dressed in reinforced leather with iron studs. Not the best in the world, but better than what you have.

You look up at the wall and wait for the patrol to pass by as you had observed earlier. A few minutes go by and the guard is gone, allowing you to execute your plan. Taking out your knives, you drive them relarively deep into a few of the posts of the wall. Using your new strength, you slowly climb the wooden barrier, only stopping once as another guard made their patrol. Once your up you quickly jump down on the other side, breaking your fall with a roll.

You say a quick prayer to Lady Silver, thanking her for her blessing as there's a cresent moon above you, aiding in your stealth work. You silently scamper through the town, looking in windows, trying to find the correct place to break into until you find a shop that has a sign with two spears and a shield above it.

Looking in the window you see a few weapons on display, and a few mannequins covered in different forms of armor. This is the place. You try the door, hoping for a forgetful clerk, but to no avail. The window was also closed. As this happens, you suddenly realize you had no idea what you were doing.

You sit there for a moment, pondering what to do before an idea hits you. You take a quick look around to check to see if there are any guards or worse, hero's wandering your way, before you cast moonfire, hoping for a small flame.

Just like you imagined, a small flame, dealing fire damage, shoots out of your finger. You place it on the glass window, only for it to crack within seconds, surprising you. You had thought it would melt, but apparently not. Taking a knife, you apply it to the glass and push just a bit, causing it to shatter with a loud crash.

"I hope nobody heard that." You whisper as you slip in. Quickly looking around, you see a few spears of quality make lined up on a rack. You pocket two of them into your inventory before you find more throwing knives. Seeing as they have served you well so far, you grab ten of them before finally turning to the armor. You wanted something light, but still armor, so you grab a leather vest that didnt look so bad, some leather pants, and some leather boots. As you go to leave the store, something catches your eye and you see a few health potions.

"Those will be quite the boon." You whisper. You grab them as well, and a handful of money before swinging yourself out the window. As you walk down the street, a voice calls out to you.

"Halt!"

You turn your head to see a guard, holding a spear walking towards you. Deciding diplomacy might work, you give the man a smile. "Ah there you are guardsman. I was just looking for one of you. I heard a crashing noise and came to investigate, only to find this shop's window had been smashed in."

The guard gives you a once over. "Who are you stranger?" He asks.

"Just a weary traveler, just got into town as it were. Could you point me in the direction of the inn?" The guard points his spear at you.

"I were just at guard duty, and you didn't enter through the gate." He said. You slowly raise your hands, trying to look as innocent as possible. "You're coming with me. Even if you didn't break into Jerome's shop, you still are a suspicious character elf." He spits out.

"Now that's just rude. But, diplomacy was worth a shot." With that you snap your fingers and the earth around the guards feet ensare him up to his calves.

"What the bloody hell!?" He yells as he trys to free himself. You waste no time and run towards the wall. As you run, a horn could be heard behind you, no doubt from the guard. As you make it to the wall an arrow zooms past you, embedding itself next to your head. Before you could run, you feel yourself get a bit weaker. Looking up, a large cloud has covered the moon. With a curse you make a right turn towards the gate, dipping and dodging every so often to avoid an arrow or spell. By now you must have half the town after you, but you continue until you find what you were looking for, a ladder. "Gah!" You gasp as an arrow pierces your shoulder. You soldier on, not wanting to get captured.

"Stop!" A female voice calls out once your at the top. Looking to your left, there stands a large, somewhat attractive women dressed in quite the form fitting breast plate. She is pointing a large bastard sword directly at you. "No where left to run theif." She says. A quick look down confirms that the guards and a hero or two have caught up to you. She gives you a confused look as she gives you a once over.

"A drow? What are you doing in a place like this? Besides stealing that is." She asks. Suddenly the moonlight returns, and you give a quick prayer to Lady Silver, hoping your plan works. "Repeat yourself! I didn't hear you."

Emerald Nightlock Lvl 20 Paladin of Aileme

Shit.

"Just returning from a mark-gah!-et trip." You say as you pull the arrow out of your shoulder.

"So you are the thief. Surrender yourself and the face the judgement of Lady Aileme, Goddess of Judgement and Light!" Emerald sneers.

"Ah, but that would most certainly put a damper on my plans. Especially since i don't worship Aileme." You smirk.

"Enough, Quiet your tongue or I shall remove it from your being." She says as she starts approaching you.

"Ah, but I do believe you are under the impression that I will, what's the phrase? Come quietly? Cuzz I'm about to do something really stupid." You say, your smirk growing larger. As she goes to grab you, you envelop your whole body in Moonfire, blinding the paladin and guards. You launch yourself over the twenty foot drop, injuring your shoulder further. You pick yourself up and book it through the forest.

Do you make it home in time for breakfast?
