Healing old wounds

Alfred checked his schedules and looked over the various monitors Master Bruce had set up to keep an eye on his various allies. It seemed that he would be able to address some old wrongs in a moment. The view of the clocktower that showed Barbara or Oracle as she was working. The view once again gave him a small stab of pain. The beautiful young girl confined to a wheel chair always gave him a momentary pang of regret. What the Joker had done to Barbara Gordon was monstrous. That the pain was shared by so many in their small circle. Her father Jim of course, but also Master Bruce and Master Dick.... At one time Alfred had thought that Master Dick and Miss Gordon would actually manage to have a happy life together.

Alfred gave up dwelling on the past as he saw that Barbara was checking in with her operatives, the Birds of Prey. The magician Zatana, who had been sent on a little trip to nip something in the bud alongside the Black Canary apparently. Both women's faces showed up in the screen Barbara was looking at.

Time to act. Alfred initiated a call with Miss Gordon. He watched in his spy cam as Miss Gordon groaned and then put her Birds on hold and answered his own call.

"Hello, Alfred." She said with a little exasperation in her voice.

"Good evening Miss Gordon." He said warmly.

"Alfred, can you call back in ten minutes. I'm a little busy," Barbara winced and looked at her operatives screen.

"Is it necessary?"

"Kinda running a job at the moment." Barbara admitted.

"Dreadfully sorry, Miss Gordon," Alfred said sounding contrite. "Is it anyone in the know?"

Barbara quirked her head, "Yeah, actually. Zatanna and Black Canary."

"Oh, well, that is a bit of good luck I needed to speak to both of those ladies."

"You did?" Barbara asked in disbelief.

"Checking to see if either will be attending Master Bruce's nuptials."

Barbara snorted, "Right... gimmie a minute."

He watched her do her computer magic before connecting them all into a conference call. He smiled as he saw all three women in the split screen of his computer, "Ladies, lovely to see you all."

"Hello Alfred." They chimed in.

"I'll just be a second. I need to know if you ladies intended to attend Master Bruce's nuptials?" Alfred made a show of holding up a list to the screen.

"Yes." All three answered.

"Fabulous." Alfred made a show of checking off the list. "Now before I go I just wanted to say, once again Miss Zatara thank you very much for using your magic to heal Oracle's injury. Repairing her spine was... I'm told only an act of magic could have possibly done the job. Barring a miracle."

Alfred looked at the clock tower spy cam screen and watched as the wheel chair Barbara was in shimmered and changed into a regular office rolling chair.

"It was nothing. Really, Alfred, I was happy to help." Zatanna smiled and waved it off.

"Well, I just wanted you to know that should you ever need anything Alfred Pennyworth will do all he can to see you get it." He smiled as he looked at Barbara in her office chair. "And perhaps in a year or two you might be invited to another wedding?"

Seeing the three women looking at him questioning Alfred pressed on, about to make sure more of his children were taken care of. "I maybe speaking out of turn and betraying confidences but Master Dick has said that after helping Oracle with her rehab that. Well... love truly never dies you know. You still love Master Dick don't you? I've seen you two together and it is obvious to me that the two of you are in love."

"Yes." Barbara answered with a blush. The two super heroines tittered and giggled as they looked on.

"Well, I won't interfere." Alfred said teasingly. "Much." He looked at the two Birds of Prey, "I hope you ladies also find yourself in a relationship with men as loving and devoted as Master Dick."

The sniggering stopped as Black Canary groaned, "Ugh, Alfred, about attending the wedding?"

"Yes."

"Ollie won't be attending. He's on a kick about the evils of... I don't know. I stopped listening when he started ranting. Institutions maybe?" Black Canary shrugged.

"Oh dear. I see. Well, that is something. I understand that you had to break up with Green Arrow. He was certainly not worth your attentions. And may i say that it is very heartening to see you move on from him. He was beneath a lady of your stature. Not worth another thought."

Black Canary slowly nodded her head, "Right. Green Who?"

"That's the spirit." Alfred smiled, "I'll see to it that your seated next to an eligible bachelor at the wedding. Someone worthy of your affections. Won't that be nice."

Black Canary bobbed her head, "Couldn't hurt."

"And while I'm playing matchmaker? Miss Zatara? I'll find a suitable man for you as well."

Zatanna sighed, "Yeah, couldn't hurt. Haven't had a lot of luck in the romance department on my own."

Alfred smiled at the three women, "Well, I have my work cut out for me, so if you will excuse me?"

"Bye Alfred." The three women chorused.

"Farewell." Alfred cut off the call and spent a second thinking over what it was he'd just done. He'd accomplished his goal of fixing Barbara Gordon's spine. Also setting Barbara and Dick back on the road to a relationship. But he'd also dismantled the romance between Black Canary and Green Arrow, Which was actually a good thing, in his opinion, Green Arrow was... The man was a hero but something of a shit person in Alfred's opinion. The way he'd treated Black Canary during the various ups and downs of their relationship was unconscionable.

Alfred made a note on his mental master plan that he would have to add Black Canary and Zatanna Zatara into his schemes. WHat was he to do with those two?
