Chapter 16 by Vain Vain

What's his answer then?

He tries the restaurant at school

"Well..." Jack pondered the question for a moment, before realizing that he was already driving down the road towards Catherine's place. And while it wouldn't actually be such a big problem, he quickly decided that it wasn't worth dropping her off first, then head for school, and pass their house a second time just to eat his breakfast at her cafe. "Sorry Kate, I'll probably eat something back at home instead."

"You can still eat at school, though!" She smiled as she hopped out of the car, and waved them off before running towards the cafe. Quite surprisingly she even insisted for him to try the other cafe, even as she was clearly disappointed that he'd turned down her offer. "You really should, if they're anywhere near as good as back when I went there!"

"Yeah, fine." He found himself nodding, before heading off down the road again, and couldn't help from noticing how both Kim and Jennie brightened up at his somewhat hasty decision. In fact he'd hoped that they would talk him out of it, as he figured it should be embarrassing to bring one's parents to school, but instead it seemed like all three of his girls were more than happy for him to leave the house for a while.

And perhaps they were right in some way, Jack realized as he reluctantly left his car at school's parking lot, as he hadn't really been seeing other people since the day after his wife had suddenly left him.

"So, where's the cafe then...?" He heard himself grumbling while following the girls towards the main building, and noticed how other students were heading the same way as themselves. They were all in a hurry as they were trying to avoid the rain, even if it was barely a drizzle compared to just a couple of minutes ago, but still he could tell how most of them turned their heads to give him and the girls a curious glance over their shoulders.

At first he felt like he was the center of all this unwanted attention, before he noticed that there was more people than just himself who really didn't seem to fit into the area, and it took him another few moments to realize it was actually the girls by his side who were drawing such a crowd. And he couldn't really blame them either, especially not the young males, as Jack too was **** to admit that both his daughters were even more eye catching than usual this morning.

With Kim it was already obvious why guys would be turning their heads around her, and even more so now that the soft rain was causing her thin, white jersey to cling like a second skin on her flawless figure. He found it a bit more difficult to see anything special about Jennifer though, as she was wearing the same kind of unremarkable clothes as per usual, but still she obviously received the same amount of curious glances as her hot little sister.

"It's just ahead!" Smiled the younger of them, as to answer Jack's question, and pointed him down the hallway before taking a turn to the right. "I'll see you later! I've got to get changed before we're starting!"

"She's only got gym classes this morning." Jennifer explained as she led him on, while Jack couldn't help but notice how Kimberly was joined by some brawny-looking guys just a bit further down the opposite corridor. From the looks of it she knew them well, but to the eyes of her suspicious father it was clear they didn't seek her company just because of her friendly character...

There wasn't much he could do about that right away however, but to give his daughter a couple of advises later on, and instead he followed his other girl down to the school cafe. And once again he got the feeling that something was off about her today, when one of the older women in the room gave them a quick glance, and then turned to stare for a second before she came to meet them.

"Jennifer, is that you...?" She greeted the girl with an odd little smile on her lips, and turned her curious gaze to Jack for a couple of seconds, as if she was somehow trying to evaluate him before they were even introduced. She certainly didn't give much room for questions though, but simply presented herself as Ms. Lance, and was apparently one of Jennie's home teachers.

"How nice to meet you!" She told him, with an emphasis that left Jack confounded, and cut him off before he was even able to tell her his full name. Even more surprising, she insisted that Jennie could join him for breakfast, as the rest of her class would apparently be studying on their own for their class of the day. "Please stay for as long as you like, Mr. Jack!"

And with that she was off to the rest of the class, leaving both Jack and his daughter staring at her back when she walked down the hallway. Perhaps it was nothing but her usual, if somewhat eccentric behavior, but then why would Jennifer seem as stunned as himself about this entire ordeal...?

What should he do then...?
