Chapter 17

What should he do then...?
Stay and eat his breakfast
Jack was still unsure of what was going on, but once again he felt like everyone in the room was staring at them, while he and Jennifer sat down by one of the vacant tables around the small cafe. And that's when he finally noticed what was different about her, as she took the seat right in front of him, and he couldn't help but stare for a second at her cute, young face.
The fact she wasn't wearing her old fashioned glasses was just a minor detail, and wasn't something he was too unfamiliar with back at home, but her usual dullness had also been replaced somehow with a much more vivid expression. In all it wasn't such a huge transformation, but just by looking at the students around him he could tell that they too were just as surprised as himself by the change.
It certainly explained the teacher's reaction as well, even if Jack couldn't see why she'd been so friendly towards himself just because of his daughter's slight shift in appearance. Just a few minutes later he'd got another clue for the puzzle however, as he overheard a few of the students around them, and came to realize that some of them had completely misread the relation between him and the girl in front of him.
"But, don't you think he's a bit too old then?" One of the passing girls asked another, in a hushed tone which Jack was just barely able to pick up, and the way both she and her friend glanced back at him made it easy to understand who they were talking about. And at the same time he noticed another group of students looking his way, with several of the boys giving him both puzzled and jealous glances as they passed him by.
Somehow it seemed like everyone simply assumed that he was Jennifer's boyfriend, rather than her father, and Jack didn't know if he should be troubled or amused by the bizarre situation. He guessed that Jennifer must have noticed too, despite being a bit of a blockhead in his own eyes, and it was easy to tell that her feelings were about as split as his own when he glanced at her blushing face.
There wasn't a lot he could do about that though, except for eating his sandwiches, and try not to draw any further attention from the people around them. It was bad enough if his daughter got a reputation for hanging out with guys who were twice her own age, but it would only get worse if he'd also act weird in public, even if it was just in an attempt to disperse those rumors before they spread too far.
Quite surprisingly, Jennifer seemed to accept the situation with relative calm as well, and if he didn't know her any better he'd even guessed that she quite enjoyed it to some extent. While this wasn't a side of her he was used to, it caused him some minor worries as he figured that she might get used to this kind of attention.
"Well, I should be going..." Jack told her eventually, after a long silence, where they'd both been quietly observing the people around them. Apparently Jennie had the same idea as well, as she was already on her way out of her seat, but somehow she tripped on her own bag on the way, and would have fallen over if he'd not been able to catch her in time.
In that exact same moment Ms. Lance had apparently just returned to the cafeteria, and found them in what must have looked like a loving embrace. It seemed like the norms had changed a lot over the years since Jack himself was in Jennifer's age though, as the teacher didn't just refrain from rebuking them, but even gave them a smile and a knowing wink, before telling her pupil it may be time to get back to the class.
In a way it made him feel a bit grateful, when he realized the fact that he'd somehow been able to pass as the boyfriend of someone less than half his own age, but at the same time he couldn't help but worry that it would cause the girl some trouble later on. Again there wasn't much he could do however, and with a mumbled apology he could only stand there and watch while his blushing daughter made her way down the corridor and quickly disappeared out of sight.
Just a few minutes later he'd left the building, and found his car in the parking lot. He was still confused about the whole ordeal, but decided to simply go home, before something else was able to go terribly wrong around him...
So, what's his plans for the rest of the day?

Girls of Jack
One man's world has been turned upside down, but he may find hope in the most unexpected places.
A story which I hope to work on when I have the time for it. For now it's closed for others, but I'll gladly accept ideas and suggestions for how to improve or continue the story! I've now started adding conditions, which is how I planned it from the start. So far it's recommended to read without activating the play function, but please try it out if you want, and let me know if you find something odd about the scoring.
