Chapter 3
by DubiousSintax
Does Mark comply with her demand or push past and escape?
He makes his escape
As he took in the old woman's hideous body Mark knew he couldn't do it. The thought of touching her made him feel sick and besides, nobody would believe he would try to **** something as disgusting as her, would they?
He shook his head and stepped off the bed, the old woman moving faster than he could have ever imagined, leaning across to slap a button on the wall beside her bed. A loud alarm immediately began to blare throughout the apartment, causing mark to yell in shock and cover his ears as he pushed past her and ran out of the apartment, quickly opening the door to his own and rushing inside before slamming the door shut behind him. His heart was pounding in his chest as he leaned against the closed door, the sound of the alarm blaring next door not helping him to calm down in the slightest. He cursed to himself as he realised he had left his shoes inside her doorway and he fought the urge to try to retrieve them, instead moving deeper inside the apartment, away from the commotion.
Unfortunately Mark could still hear everything. Doors opened and closed and raised voices could be heard as concerned neighbours checked in on what was happening, and eventually the steady troop of heavy boots up the stairs heralded the arrival of the police. Thankfully the alarm had finally ceased blaring but Mark could still not make out what was being said in the apartment next door, no matter how much he strained to hear. Soon he heard the heavy footfalls approach his own front door, followed by a solid knock which caused a terrifying sense of dread to begin to bubble in his gut.
Mark opened the door to a couple of cops, a male and a female, both fairly young... probably only a couple of years older than him. The man held up his shoes, already sealed up tight in an evidence bag, asking, "These yours Son?", letting the question hang as Mark struggled to contain his nerves.
"Ahh, yes officer... they are but... I can explain..." he trailed off, uncertain of exactly how he could explain, but before he could continue he was interrupted. "Good, because you are going to have to." said the cop, "Put on some other shoes... you're coming with us to the station." Mark's eyes widened at this, glancing over to the female cop who smirked disdainfully at him before nodding at him to hurry up. He quickly complied slipping into a pair of sneakers before following the pair downstairs. Numerous neighbours watched him from their doorways as he passed, some shaking their heads, others cursing at him under their breath. He did his best to ignore them but he already knew, even if he could convince the police of his innocence, he was already a monster in the eyes of many.
The cops slammed the car door on him, then sped back to the station, Mark's mind racing with troubling thoughts and emotions as they zipped past the traffic. Eventually he was led from the car into the station, and after quickly processing him, confiscating his belongings, testing his blood **** and taking his fingerprints, he was led to...
Is Mark held in a cell alone or with other criminals?
