Chapter 3 by ThePurpleD3viL ThePurpleD3viL

Does Edward accept the stone?

He can't really deny it

Edward stared at the glowing blue rock in his palm. It really was beautiful, deep ocean blue with tiny flecks of silver that caught the light. Something this nice had to be expensive. He opened his mouth to hand it back and tell the old man he couldn’t accept it.

But when he looked up, the sidewalk was empty.

Edward blinked hard and spun around. No purple robe, no long grey beard, no sign of the tall stranger anywhere. The street looked completely normal again, just parked cars, quiet houses, and a light breeze moving the leaves strewn about. The old man had vanished like he’d never been there at all. Like some Batman shit.

“What the fuck…” Edward whispered, heart beating a little faster.

He stood there for almost a full minute, turning in a slow circle, scanning every direction. Nothing. No one. He looked down at the stone still resting in his hand. The glow had dimmed a little but was still visible. Part of him wanted to drop it on the ground and walk away, but another part, the same part that kept him hoping for impossible things, slipped it into his front pocket instead.

He shrugged, trying to shake off the strange feeling crawling up his spine and continued walking home. The weight of the stone pressed gently against his thigh with every step. Just a weird old guy, he told himself. Probably some eccentric crazy person who liked dressing up. The stone was probably just a cheap glow toy.

Still, Edward kept his hand in his pocket, fingers brushing over the smooth surface as the familiar shape of his house came into view at the end of the street. Another disappointing day, sure. But something about that brief, bizarre encounter made the air feel just a little different.

The rest of Edward’s evening dragged on in the same dull rhythm it always did. He stepped inside the quiet house, kicked off his shoes by the door and dropped his backpack on the couch. His parents’ cars weren’t in the driveway yet, which meant another night of eating alone. He heated up some leftover rice and grilled chicken in the microwave, standing in the kitchen scrolling through his phone while he waited. The food tasted like nothing. He ate it quickly at the dining table, chewing without really tasting, eyes fixed on random videos that didn’t make him laugh.

After dinner he **** himself to sit at his desk and finish the homework he had been putting off. Math problems, a couple of history questions and an English essay outline. His mind kept wandering back to the cheerleaders he had seen practicing earlier, stretching in those tight black yoga shorts, heavy tits bouncing as they ran through their routine, again and again. He shook his head and tried to focus, but the images stuck. By the time he closed his notebooks it was already past eight.

He still had chores to do. He loaded the dishwasher, wiped down the counters and took out the trash like he was supposed to. The house felt too big and empty. His parents texted that they would be late again, some big project at work. Edward just replied with a short “okay” and headed upstairs.

In his room he changed out of his school uniform into a plain black t-shirt and gray sweatpants. He tossed his pants over the back of his computer chair without thinking. The room was the same as always, posters on the wall, a messy bed, his taekwondo gi hanging on the closet door. He brushed his teeth, washed his face and stared at himself in the mirror for a moment. Same sharp jaw, same dark eyes, same tired expression. Nothing special.

He climbed into bed and pulled the blanket over his legs, sitting up against the headboard for a few minutes. That was when he noticed it, a soft blue glow coming from the pocket of the pants he had thrown over his computer chair. The stone. He had almost forgotten about the weird old man from earlier.

Edward got up and walked over to the chair. He reached into the pocket and pulled out the shiny blue rock. It felt warm in his palm again. He turned it slowly between his fingers, watching the faint inner light shift. It really did glow on its own. For a second he wondered again if it was some kind of trick or expensive gadget.

“Yeah right,” he muttered to himself, a small smirk pulling at his lips. “A stone that could grant my wishes. The man must think I’m stupid.”

He shook his head and moved toward his desk to set it down. But as his fingers hovered over the wooden surface, an **** question slipped into his mind. If this thing actually worked… if he could wish for anything right now, what would he even ask for?

The answer came immediately, he would probably want every cheerleader on campus to fall obsessively in love with him, he thought to himself, as he felt sadder at his own wish.

It felt pathetic. Here he was, nineteen years old, wishing for magic because real life wasn’t giving him what he wanted. He let out a quiet breath and placed the stone on the corner of his desk. It sat there glowing softly.

Edward turned away, reached over and switched off the lamp. The room went dark except for the faint blue light behind him. He slid down under the blanket, facing the wall, back turned completely toward the desk. The sheets felt cool against his skin. He closed his eyes and tried to push the stupid thoughts out of his head. Another disappointing day. Another night alone. Sleep came slowly, but soon he was fast asleep.

He never saw what happened next.

Behind him on the desk, the blue stone suddenly shone brighter. The glow pulsed for a couple of seconds. Then, just as quickly, the light faded completely. The stone trembled slightly before it began to crumble. Tiny pieces broke off, turning to fine blue dust that settled silently on the desk surface. In less than a minute the entire rock had disintegrated into nothing but a small pile of glittering powder.

Edward remained asleep, facing the wall, completely unaware that everything had already changed.

What happens next?
