Chapter 10 by jealco

How are you going to lose the bikers?

Go for the suburbs

The suburbs are your safer bet. The oncoming bikers will be harder to lose there than in the packed streets of downtown, but at least you'll be able to go full-bore without having to worry about both gangs and hundreds of cars blocking the roads.

You take the cutoff at full speed, narrowly squeezing between a car and the retaining wall, your hand impulsively hitting the brakes as you damn near hit another car. Your rear tire squeals as you swerve past it, goosing the throttle again, slaloming between the cars, as another shot impacts the car next to you. A couple of loud crunches and screams accompany several of the pursuing riders failing to dodge those same cars.

As you scream off the other end of the ramp, you swing right, opening the throttle fully again, taking off like a rocket towards the houses in front of you. A glance in the rear-view mirror shows that the pack of riders behind you is much smaller now, maybe four or five strong, though they now seem even more determined to get you. A round shatters your right mirror, and you yelp as you abruptly swing left into the first street you see.

The next few minutes are filled with you rocketing past houses, taking turns at random, the pursuing riders splitting up in an effort to box you in. After almost T-boning one, and nearly sideswiping one that didn't expect you to round the corner you did, you finally seem to have lost them for the moment, though you can still hear the bass rumble of their bikes rolling through the houses.

You slow down a bit, quickly casing your options. A few houses catch your eye. One has the garage hanging open, and you might be able to stash your bike inside it. There's another house with no fence, which you could get your bike behind. The third option is to hope the path you came in on is clear enough to escape back to the highway, though you're not entirely sure which road you came in on...

Into the garage, behind the other house, or attempt to get out of the neighborhood?
