Thinking quickly, Druuna grabbed her club and dashed behind the cover of a nearby aisle. As she got behind the cover an arrow flew past her and impacted the ground where she had been standing only moments before.
Gripping her club tightly and trying to control her breathing, Druuna waited for what seemed like an eternity to her. Then, just as she had hoped, the man with the bat came around the corner; foolishly thinking she had fled deeper into the store. All he could do was gasp in surprise before Druuna swung the spiked end of her club into the mans face in a shower of blood and screams.
The leader of the men charged out from behind the now dead man and swung his heavy fire ax at Druuna’s neck. Her heart stilling beating like a freight train, Druuna dodged to the side just in time to turn a deadly blow into a shallow cut across her shoulder and a sliced strap on her shirt. The mans ax was buried deep in the wood of the shelve, giving Druuna the chance to snap his neck with a quick blow from her club.
She quickly jerked the deceased warriors ax out of the shelf and held it in one hand while holding her club in the other. Wielding two weapons, Druuna charged out of cover at the lone bowman. The bowman; not trained or able to fight at close range, screamed in terror and ran towards the east. As he ran he pulled out a rusty whistle and was able to blow on it a couple of times before Druuna caught up with him and planted the ax in his skull.
The men were dead, but Druuna knew she wasn’t safe yet. From all around her she heard other whistles being blown. The message was being spread, there was an intruder in the area. After pulling the ax free of the corpses skull, Druuna quickly got moving up a set of stairs. They’d definitely block the main exit and staying still wasn’t a good choice either. She’d have to find another way out.
