What is the plan of attack?
Full frontal !
“Eleanor . . . I’d like for you to set up on overwatch with your bow and arrows, pick off any that face away from you to deal with my outcasts. Lauran, I want your song to be of toughness, I want my outcasts to take a hit before they go down so they can get at least one hit in with their new clubs. Karla, as usual I want you on me to heal me up so I can fight without worry . . . you may have your work cut out for you” You say to your three companions who nod their agreement at your orders, even Karla seemed to be getting into a rhythm with her task.
“Always nice ta see tha classics in action eh?” says Lauran causing Eleanor to laugh as they move to their positions. You were surprised that none of them argued, especially since Eleanor can fight up close if she wanted too but you’d prefer having her as a supporting element than a direct combat element.
“Eleanor, if you see an opening that you can use to turn the tide, take it, we may encounter surprises” You say as she moves off to take her position. She nods in reply, barely even turning her head.
“I’ll do what I do best and barely even take a hit” she says in reply, giving you a hand in farewell.
“What? No care for me ‘n’ Karla? I’d thought that we’d be just as important” says Lauran with mock offense as she too gets onto a hill where her lute would be usable for most of the initial fight
“I don’t mind, I’m not going to be of much use anyway and I’m going to be sticking close to him anyway” Karla was still a little down, but she at least looked committed now.
When both Lauran and Eleanor had gotten into position, you turn to your outcasts. You were going to charge the fodder in first in an attempt to soften up the resistance but you knew this battle would be decided by you and your honour guard, not the regular outcasts. Moving forward into the small throng of about seventy outcasts you gather your breath before issuing one loud bellow;
“CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!!!” you roar as your sixty regular outcasts charge forward. You wait a few seconds to make sure they get there first before you start charging in yourself after them.
The front row of guards had engaged your outcasts and had formed a crescent moon around your outcasts with the gate guards holding the centre and the flanking guards coming around the sides to box them in and stab them to **** from range. This manoeuvre had opened the right flank of the Guards to Eleanor’s bow and she made her presence known by launching an exploding arrow that dropped one guard and nearly killed two more. You use the confusion that was created by Eleanor and you, with your ten honour guardsmen, crash into centre of the crescent. You roar as you activate your rage and hit the enemy guardsman three times before he could even react, killing him. The other six guardsmen are similarly overwhelmed by your inferior yet still capable honour guard while you leave the rest of the guards on either side to the outcasts.
You take a hit as you move past the first line, two spears strike you straight into your chest and deal a solid ninety damage to you but you press forward, feeling a strange surge as Karla’s magic is noticeable for once. Moving into range, you swing your axe but only find shields with the axe head as the guardsmen retreat into another crescent on the other side of the gate. Damnation! I should have expected this! You think to yourself as you know find twelve spears holding you and your honour guard back, now only eight as two are claimed by the sharpened tips.
You were about to order a fall back so that you could send in your outcasts and absorb the spear blows when a figure darts out from behind you. Before you could even react, Karla had fired off two magical bolts at a guardsman, they barely did anything but did cause confusion which Karla used to get in closer and thrust her bladed staff into the chest of the weakened guard and a small explosion occurred, finishing him off for good. You recover from the shock faster than the guards do and with a bellow, you reactivate your rage and kill another guard while your honour guard follow suit and crash into the guards. You fight your way over to Karla who jumps back behind you and some bolts of blue streak past you, distracting another guard enough for you to take him down before your rage even wears off. It takes only a few more moments to deal with the remaining guards as you, your honour guard and Karla work in tandem.
“I saw you needed help . . . and just sorta reacted . . . sorry if I made things worse” Karla says to you, hanging her head as you consolidate your outcasts in the area around the gate. Ahead you can see another two lines of guardsmen occupying the square of the village, led by a plate armoured figure wielding a spear with a curved short sword on the tip instead of a spear point.
“Nonsense, that was brilliant!” you say to the girl, putting your hand on her shoulder to reassure her. “I hope you can do more of that in the future, it was certainly a sight to behold” Karla picks up and her face brightens at your compliment
“That is a vanguard . . . one that is at least level twenty five in order to get that Naginata . . . it is only obtainable from a certain quest as a reward for beating a boss in an obscure corner of a dungeon etcetera” Says Eleanor, coming up from behind you with Lauran in tow. “Sorry I couldn’t help, I was about to head down and scale the wall when I saw what Karla did. So this is an infamous ‘Vanguard’ you think as you study the figure ahead of you, from this distance you can see his blond hair falling around his armoured shoulders and it suddenly strikes you that it is a ‘she’ instead of a ‘he’ and that you mistook her for a man because her armour is thick enough to obscure most of her feminine physique.
“Your That is quite alright, I had envisioned a similar problem would catch you but it is over now, and I think I may have a prize that I might play with” you give a low, menacing chuckle at the thought of bending the vanguard woman over and pounding her into submission. The thought stirs your cock from its hiding place behind your loin cloth but you out your thoughts of what you will do with her out of your head on focus on how to beat her instead.
“I-is that really necessary?” Says Karla, looking doubtful. “No, you know what? I don’t even care anymore . . . do what you want with her” you look down at your little mage girl and see the resignation in her eyes as she studies the side of one of the buildings
“Now to deal with that . . . I fear they may be quite prepared for us this time and I wouldn’t put another trick like the gates past them” you say as you look at the group of guards in front of you
“Plus that vanguard ahead ain’t gonna be easy ta deal with I reckon” says Lauran behind you as she also studies the guards in front “So whatchya reckon boss? We take her down a notch first and deal with the guards second?” Lauran’s plan actually seemed to be sound
“Standard issue small party against large party tactics would be to deal with the weakest enemies first and deal with the boss last” Eleanor says as she looks the enemy formation over. “we would need everything we have to deal with her”
“M-maybe . . . maybe you and I could take her together? Leave the guards to Eleanor, Lauran and your Orcs? I mean, I was keeping you at full health easily and even managed to find the time to attack as well . . . we could pull it off!” You look at Karla, she looked really determined and from her stint at the gates, you think her strategy might even be valid and would certainly have advantages.
With three good strategies of attack you think on which one would be best; do you attack the guards and hope the vanguard doesn’t do terrible damage before you can turn your attention to her? Do you attack her with everything you got and hope the guards aren’t good enough to do anything back? Or do you split your forces and fight the vanguard along with Karla?
Which basket are your eggs going in?
