Follow The Creatures

Deciding that what just happened is far too strange to just leave, regardless of the potential dangers involved, you decide to try and quietly follow the two creatures in the hopes that you might be able to uncover more details about what's going on tonight. They don't seem particularly interested in you anyway, so you're probably safe enough.

You sprint in the direction that they left in, and it isn't long before you hear squeaking. Apparently, this may be easier than you thought - that latex skin of theirs is rubbing together as they run, and while they're fairly fast the noise is loud enough to give them away. You have no problem keeping on their trail, hanging back just far enough to keep from being noticed but staying just close enough that they don't getaway.

After a while, you become aware of the fact that you aren't in or even near your neighbourhood anymore. In fact, wherever you look completely unfamiliar. The houses look far older here than in the rest of town, most of them boarded up and clearly abandoned, and there are far fewer of them. Between them, thick trees and vegetation grows and towers above you, and even in the cracked roads, there are the beginnings of some grass and bushes poking through. The streets themselves are lined with old cars, none of which look like they're in working order and some of which are so thickly covered in rust that you wonder if they'd fall apart at a single touch. It's obvious why those monsters would hide in a place like this: nobody lives here, and it certainly isn't the kind of place you'd want to visit.

Or rather, that's what you think until you reach the end of the street. There, you can see a tall building, untouched by the ravages of time. Its windows are not only intact but quite clean, its walls are untouched by the vegetation and covered in a coat of dark paint that looks completely fresh, and its yard is cleanly mowed, the grass healthy and free of weeds. Compared to the rest of the region, this residence is a castle, and not only because of its cleanliness: the building is at least three stories tall, and considerably broader, large enough to hold at least three large families AND their things AND their pets AND their servants AND their servants' pets... and still have room left over. Left in awe at the size of it, you almost forget what you're here for, remembering in a snap as you notice the wolf and cat walking towards the front door.

The wolf, standing on two legs, reaches out a paw, hand? and twists the knob, and the pair quickly make their way inside and shut the door behind them. From this, you learn two things. First, the wolf's front "paws" are surprisingly dexterous, and given that it can open doors it's probably more intelligent than its animal counterpart. Second, they apparently don't leave the door locked. If you wanted, you could probably walk right in.
