Flotsam

"Need any help in Temeria?" she asked - as they arrived at the outskirts of the town of Flotsam, a few days later. "Beside the usual kill that guy or monster."

"I know, that Witchers are supposed to be neutral - but Letho' actions made that kinda hard. So I think some goodwill might be needed to be earned back," she spoke. "Hmh, Radovid. I think he was right about you turning me into a soldier."

"Plus I kinda like you," added Eve in good humor, looking at him, for his reaction.

The witcheress' last sentence hit Vernon. He had learned to respect Eve, but now, after their endeavours, come to think about it, Vernon had to admit to himself he liked Eve's company.

"A very few people has ever said that to my face, Wolf. And of course, help is always welcome" Vernon said, with a shy grin on his face.

"Vernon Roche you are just one man," spoke Eve. "A single human against the tide, can't hope to defeat it all on its own. Now, if you learn to turn the tide against themselves, then you can defeat it."

"What I am saying is don't fault yourself, for actions your unable to stop. Instead prepare to deal with the new actions to come," she said. "And I meant in personal terms. You don't miss Ves? You two aren't an item?"

"No we are not. Can't fuck your direct subordinates, or atleast not in Ves' case," he replied.

"So, when was the last time you had - anytime to loosen-up?" she asked. "I recall, you drinking in Flotsam - but that was mildly, and Ves said you were the only sober and sane man, for the night. Don't you have any female at home, or a certain girl you like to visit?"

"Now that you asked - no. Women have tended to either ignore me or look horrified after they hear what I do for a living." She looked beautiful in the light of the sun, despite her scars and bruises. "Of course, I have moments when I think of settling down. Don't you?"

"It has come to my mind, a few times. I just have never found that right one, the world is large and whatnot. Do you have a suggestion, where to find one?" she asked, leaning slightly closer to his face.
