Chapter 13 by Under Under

Do you try to do the tasks?

First, let's ask for the job.

You flag the bartender down.

“Hey, I saw your flyer. You guys hiring?”

The bartender perks up “Oh, you’re here for that? Sure. Hey, Johnny!”

Another man—blonde, in the same bar uniform—turns around “Yeah?”

“This guy’s here about the job”

Johnny looks you up and down, then nods. “Follow me. You’re lucky, the boss is in today.”

He leads you past a STAFF ONLY sign and stops at a door.

“Boss, there’s someone here about the job.”

“Let him in,” comes a gruff voice from the other side.

When Johnny opens the door, you’re met by a man in his late 30s or early 40s. Broad shoulders, strong jaw, serious expression.

“So, what do you expect from this job?” he asks.

“Honestly? To get paid more than in my last one.”

That earns a faint smirk from him. You talk for a while longer—standard questions, mostly—and at some point Johnny disappears entirely. It’s just the two of you now.

By the time the conversation winds down, he stands.

“Come back tomorrow with your résumé. We’ll continue this talk.”

“Understood. Thanks for the chance. I know I kind of barged in.”

“It’s fine. Now get out of here. I expect you back at 6 PM sharp.”

You leave the office and check your phone again.

The bar tasks are still waiting. And now, you’re not just a customer here—you’re a potential employee.

You’re getting closer to a better job… but at what personal cost?

Will you do them now?
