Chapter 52

This is your moment, Debbie. It's time to shine!
FOR GLORY!
"KA-POW!" You shout, bringing your {if@ Weapon == 2}Sledgeaxe's bladed side{elseif Weapon == 1}{if BatonVolt == True}crackling-tipped staff{else}sparking batons{endif}{endif} down onto the monster's back.
The chitin absorbs most of the hit, but it was distracted to begin with and you're able to swing fast and sudden enough that the monster is taken by surprise. As it turns around to face you, snarling and preparing to reciprocate, Jace swings his foot and kicks the monster's legs out from under it.
Ah, perfect! With the monster on the ground now, Jace hops over it and moves away, giving you all the space you need to rain down strike after strike onto the simulated monster with all of the **** you can muster.{if RocketSledgeaxe == True} The rockets help, too.{endif} It doesn't have a chance to get back up, and you're quickly able to finish it off as Jace observes you in all of your greatness.
You swing down one final duun to the side of the still monster's head, to really make sure it's finished off and also because it feels satisfying to do, and then straighten back up again.
That's one down! And, hey, look at you go -- you just killed your first ever monster and saved your first ever monster victim, in your first ever battle, for real! Your spirits are immediately lifted as high as they'll go as a wash of validation rushes over you. You're not so bad at this Warrior thing, hey? Pretty boppin', if you ask you (which you do (often)).
"Thanks!" Jace says with a smile, shooting you a thumbs up. He runs over to the window now that he's seen you win your little engagement (handily). With Cameron and Delilah both as far from the hut as they are, you just rush to the window to join him, and maybe point out crossbow targets if he needs it. That would be fun.
To the left, Cameron's only just finished his off. It's too bad that you missed it, but good for him! You're right on time, however, to see Delilah plant one foot on the bridge's bannister, and use it to kick off into a huge arcing jump that sees her landing daintily on the body of land on the opposite side of the stream. Before the monster she was engaged with can rush over to her along the bridge, she pulls something out from a leather pouch on her armour, and.....
KKRA-CKOOOM!
All of a sudden, the bridge erupts into a fiery blaze of orange and yellow. Charred chunks of wood are sent flying, splashing into the narrow stream below and being taken away by the current, as the wreckage collapses and the whole area is blocked by smoke.
You're completely gobsmacked! That was so cool! The smoke slowly clears to reveal the blackened body of the monster lying still in the stream, icy water running over it as Delilah smirks from her spot on the dry land and puts away all of her things under various straps and pouches on her armour.
You had no idea bridges were so volatile! Good thing Delilah got off of it in time.
"Way to go, Dellie." Jace says with a smile, lowering his crossbow and taking out the loaded bolt. Oh. Delilah did that. Well, it wasn't that cool.
"Alright, everybody, come in!" Professor Phoebe calls out, jumping from the hut's thatched roof and landing just in front of the window you and Jace are looking through. "It's evaluation time."
You and Jace leave the hut and stand by Professor Phoebe in the grass, while Cameron and Delilah slowly make their way over to you. Delilah's boots get a bit wet, because she has to cross the stream, and you think that's funny. Still, when she arrives she's got a really smug air about her. You'd tell her about the funny boots thing, but you don't want to get blown up. Besides, Professor Phoebe's starting to talk now.
And you are renowned for your listening abilities!
