Chapter 28 by Gatsha Gatsha

Battler knows. The culprit is...

Eva, obviously. Awkward...

"... I-it's you, isn't it, Aunt Eva?" Battler spoke awkwardly, both of their voices going silent as the corny mood music continued to play mercilessly in the background.

"Aha... Ahahahauhuhuhuh!!" Eva laughed, although shaky panic was in her eyes. "Wh-who's that? Eva's one of those kids of Kinzo's, huh? But I'm-"

"I'm sorry. I should have stopped earlier, Aunt Eva. This was way wrong of me! Forgive me!" Battler begged, clapping his hands together and just barely missing the chest he'd been groping half a minute earlier.

"... No... But I... I tried so hard!" Eva whined, now looking like a young girl in the wrong ways as she stamped her heeled foot on the ground in anger. "Damn you, Battler, when did you figure it out?!"

"F-figure it out? I mean, I'm your nephew! Even if you talk like a bratty valley girl, I can still tell it's you, of course-"

"Whaaat?! But if you knew from early on... Wait, that means... B-Battler, you grabbed me like that knowing it was me!! Th-th-that is not forgivable, young man!" Eva had picked up her fan and now held it to Battler's neck like a guillotine.

The young man gulped, beginning to fiddle with his blindfold. "I thought you wanted me to play along! I mean, you were even letting me play with your boobs! How else was I supposed to interpret this-"

"Aaaah!! Noo, don't take it off, leave it ooon!!" Eva wailed, forgetting her modesty as she clenched her teeth and moved to grab Battler's hands, pressing her naked chest against the breast of his suit as she tried to stop him from removing the blindfold. Her hanging breasts even slapped him in the face as the two fought over it. Ha ha... Ha...

Damn. Damn! I can't believe I let them bind me with a rule like that! It should have been me over there, horsing around with a flustered, almost naked Eva on my lap...

...

I felt a chill in the air. The others were too distracted to see, as golden butterflies formed in the darkness behind me. I slowly peered over my shoulder...

"Too bad. There was no witch here after all, human. Too baaad...~"

Beatrice was sitting on the bed in her grand gown, looking like a faint outline of herself. After all, she hadn't fully materialized yet, and the anti-magic toxin in this room was strong... Still, she seemed to find it necessary to appear before me and gloat. The witch gave me a cocky but mysterious smile. "Player. You know what Battler's problem is? Even when presented with a miracle, his imagination is not great enough for him to believe it. Even when presented with a fantastic witch, all he can see is a pathetic woman. Too bad, truly pitiful... But you know what...?"

Beatrice rose, holding her smoking pipe aloft, and strolled alongside me, then whispered in my ear.

"In one hour... They'll learn what a true witch is like! A true witch doesn't get flustered and throw a tantrum when humans deny her existence... A true witch won't let herself be denied. Kuhuhu... Why don't you stick around and see, Mr. Player?"

...

I had a headache from seeing everything I'd set up come to nothing. I sighed. If it's all the same to you, Beatrice, I'll sleep through this one.

"Make sure you hang up your sign. <Do not disturb.> Otherwise, you might get a visitor... Then, you get to guess if that perverted visitor is a witch... Heeeeheehehyah!"

Rubbing my temple, I left the room. I found the first open guest bed and plopped down for an hour of rest. I really don't leave myself enough time for sleeping in these stories...

I didn't see Beatrice that night, but I assume she saw me... In the morning, I wasn't left alive.

What's next?
